(muahaha!) The Frankensteining of a '74 wire harness into a '72 Mercury Comet met with complete sucess yesterday.... er, except I still don't know which wire is the heat sensor, and which is the oil pressure... Ah well. Anyways, tightened it up yesterday, hit the starter, and the damned thing leapt forward (really gotta adjust that tranny shift linkage, ) against the parking brake. Now, the only thing left to do is drop a kit in the carb I got on the 'ol 302 (it started leaking after I shut down, but no big deal... Tremble, riceboys....
Way to go, Phyphor1! I hope I don't have to go through what you did. Why did you replace the whole harness? Fire? Shorts? Previous owner screwups? I'm hoping to get mine running too; if I can get the shifter wires straight. So close, and yet so far! Grant
Previous Owner issues.... As in, a previous owner rebuilt the carb, and failed to reinstall the needle valve, apparently. Under a load, it'd run fine, but idling, it'd spew gas everywhere..... it caught fire, slagged the engine harnesses (and got a chunk of the headlight / front end section, too) and wasted that carb. I wound up tracking down a harness (outta 74 Comet, ) installing it, and it worked, pretty much. Like I said before, there's still a few bugs to work out, (mainly with the new carb, but WTH, )
