Put the system in yourself, the worst thing that seems to stump some people is the power wiring. Any young man should have the satisfaction of installing his first system, it's a car guy thing.
I plan on putting mine right under my gauges right there on the trans tunnel in this pic Sorry bought the quality my camera sucks. Im putting it there cause where the radio goes im putting my switch panel.
if you install it yourself and you get stuck i'm sure theres lots of people who could help from the forum
i put mine in, i made a box that contained the cd player and 2 speakers to tuck under the dash cause i didnt wanna hurt my dash
Here is the Pioneer stereo and late 60's Sun gauges that I installed in my '72 when I was 18. The newer temp gauge was there because I didn't (and still don't) have the sending unit to the old Sun temp gauge. Every time they come up on ebay, they go for ridiculous money, as do the gauges themselves. I got the gauges out of this old '57 Ranchero my grandpa has sitting out in his field. Took quite a bit of polishing to get them looking nice again.
that is an AWESOME car. Never seen anything like that. Maybe I should cut the back off the wagon and make it into one of those... J/K I'll have to find one of those after I finish the wagon.
when my Son put the first system in the Mav, he had it wired up and sounding great...only thing...it only played with the door open. he had spliced into the dome light wire. took him a minute but he figured it out. ......
I put mine in myself. AM/FM/Cass in dash. Has a 12 disc CD changer in the trunk & a 10" subwoofer. 2 6x9 speakers in the rear package tray. 2 6" speakers in the kick panels, w/factory speaker grills. 2 amps, one under each front seat..... Talk about a boombox....
I have thought of installing a stereo in my Maverick many times but I don,t want to modify the dash or cut holes for speakers. The orginal AM is still there and I am the 3ed owner, no one has touched it! Since I do not drive the car full time I just listen to oldies on the AM. I think If I decided to go on a long trip I could use my portable Panasonic boom box and use a cassette adapter and plug in my Ipod. There used to be a "slide in and out" bracket to use for underdash stereo systems. This would work if the speaker could be hidden. My interior is stock and perfect orginal condition. I will leave it that way! I also have a Motorola AM/FM mono radio that was a dealer installed option. It looks like the am/fm stereo radio Ford radio. I guess its just not that important.
My suggestion: FM converter, then an ipod FM modulator for your ipod. Walla.....ipod tunes thru your existing AM radio.
