I never had a problem with the mixture on any carb, I just ran the carb out of cfm. With anything smaller than a 850 cfm i would be showing vacuum under the carb at wot. After i went to the larger bore carb tuning the individual circuits was all i had to do.
I appreciate that but really anyone that can read can do the same as me. All it takes is read till your eyes bleed then read some more then go tune. It takes a lot of trial and error till you figure out what circuit does what, then it starts to be second nature. P.S i also had an older gentlemen that did it when there was no such thing as a wide band help me get started. There are a lot of older people around that i have learned to listen to over the years that has helped me a lot. One of the gentlemen actually pioneered the first reverse rotation 289 Ford motor for round track racing, Believe me i listen when he talks.
That's because they used a vacuum secondary carb. Put a Mech secondary 750 on a stock headed 289 with the Hi-po cam and it'll be overcarbed for sure. Nail the pedal from a dead stop and chances are it'll kill the motor, onjly if you rev it to 3 or 4 grand will it have a chance of that not happening.
