So I am trying to get all the parts near the brakes of this donor car, i.e. calipers, hub, etc., but essentially all i need is the spindle, right? I would think that the hub would be important....unless the hub is integral with the rotor. Which I don't know because I haven't seen any mav disc brakes. If I did, I woulda took 'em! :mischeif:
So, since shipping is an issue, what do I need of the '77 car for the upgrade?
Side-question: is ford 5 lug bolt pattern a constant? for instance, the bolt pattern on the '77 the same as the 5 lug rear end on a '75?

as always, help- good or bad- way appreciated

Ok the hub is part of the rotor and you can get those new from autozone or checker

the calipers are good for cores if you don't rebuild them.

if you can get them with the backing plates and they are in good condition it saves you from hunting them down.

also get the proportioning valve, sometimes it seems like they are harder to find then the disk brake spindles themselves.

You will probably need to use the later model tie rods and I would suggest while you are going to be into it that it is a good time to redo your front suspension. You are going to need an alignment and it might as well be on new ball joints and other components.

Yes the 5 lug pattern is universal ford used it for many many years including the ford rangers into the 90's.

try looking here it is for a mustang but it is almost identical process for our cars(i did not have to move the steering stops), the granada the mustang and the maverick all share hardware along with other ford cars so the parts are exactly the same

I always get everything, rotors, calipers and spindles. Many times the rotors are nearly new and are fine for reuse. I've bought and sold a dozen sets of these brakes and at least half had good rotors. You can mic their thickness to see if they're worth saving. The minimum thickness is cast into the hubs, I think it's .850" if I recall correctly.

Thanks markso125 and baddad457:tiphat:. I am trying to get these parts from a junk yard guy out of state via ebay. I am going to try to get everything I can get while keeping shipping cost in mind. When I got the car 2 years ago I replaced most of the front suspension parts minus the ball joints with the intention of getting new brakes and doing the job then. Thanks again for the advice.

baddad457, you know of any good junk yards around here? I am gonna give ascension pony car a try one of these days. I have to act fast, hunting season is upon us. I hunt in Sherburne, btw.:Blasting:

Remember that the granada's and the mercury monarchs use the same brakes. Also this is a common swap for many of the older cars, falcons comets mustangs fairlanes ect. so don't pass up the older fords in junkyards because someone else may have done the same swap and decided to junk out the car.

All the Granada's and Monarchs, up to & including the 1980 Model year. Be sure to also check the rearend as the 9" was an option for these cars. The last two 1980's I ran across both had 9's with drum brakes.
