I was told by a Transmission Shop to use an aod out of a 1991 or newer Mustang. A lot of earlier transmission faults were corrected by then.

If you buy an AOD try and get the yoke that goes with it. There are at least 2 different sizes and I think there may be 3. the later years had the updated lube on the rear bushing.

dont go past '93. the '94+ cars had AOD-E transmissions that require a TCM (transmission control module) that has to be 'piggy-backed' to work. Frank (71gold) did have a list of what all the AOD came in. but you are right about the corrections, the later transmissions are a little better than the older ones because of it's improved design

There is no "transmission" harness on an AOD..... the AOD-E is another story.

ummm, its great you guys are throwing the data in( thats why this board RULES!) but i am actually hoping for a full tech article not just for me but for anyone in the future. i am not dedicated one way or the other yet since i have 3 C-4 transmissions and 0 AOD but there are others out there who may want a complete step by step. BTW, frank, is it a plug and the wires coming out of it that is critical? maybe a part number on that plug for somone who bought the aod already? thanks again you guys.:thumbs2:

I guess it would be nice to have a tech article on that but unless someone had already put on in a Maverick and wrote it all down you'll have to wait until somebody does.
I put on in my 71 F100 several years ago but it wouldn't be quite the same.
TV cable hook up would be the same but I would bet something would have to be done to the tranny tunnle as the AOd is a pretty large tranny. It cleared the tunnle in my f100 but it was pretty close in several areas.
It was basically the same as any new install except the TV cable

Do you know what year F-150 and what size motor it was behind? maybe a part number off the trans or case? if it is that easy with that exact one that would be tremendously helpful to anyone wanting to do this swap ;)
