Last Saturday, Frank, Jeff and I took my Mav to Coupe Performance, in Covington, GA. for a dyno run. This run was for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and evaluation of the engine. I had a bad vibration, and couldn't seem to run it down. Still needed some work done to the crossmember for the trans, and some other minor work. The cars best run was 217hp at the wheels, and 260lb/ft of torque. The engine is a '86 short block, freshened up, E7TE heads, long tube headers, Stealth intake, Avenger 570cfm carb, 3:55 gears and a 5spd. Here is a pic of the dyno sheet, if anyone is interested. Not mentioning money, or what the problems were. Runs great now! Jeff had some pics...I forgot my camera!
Dan; yes, the run was in 4th gear, stopped at 5200rpm. That is where the power started to fall off. Still have an oil leak I need to run down. The shop I chose to do the work after the fire was, to put it mildly, terrible. Had to redo everything they touched. Live and learn...................
Very cool. Hoping to get mine on a dyno this season. I have no idea whats in the engine. The guy I bought the car off had it built and didnt really know what was inside. Cam specs etc... I get alot of flak being a tech and not having a clue whats under the hood. I know its got pretty blue roller rockers and builds rpm real fast. The trans shifts real hard and fast but has no converter.I have a 3500 in the gargage. It might make it into the car if it needs it. It does however have one of those cooling trans pans with the tubes through it. If anything it looks cool. The 4:11 locker may get swapped for something more streetable next year. We'll see how it drives when it hits the road come Spring.
Are the heads stock, unported? If so, theres quite a bit of power youre leaving on the table for your next winters project. Stock cam I assume. Not bad numbers at all. Whats it run in the quarter? Your combination is very similar to what I have in my Falcon.
Heads are stock, non-ported. Like you say, next winter. The cam is a B303, just a bit above stock. I like t he idle and the low end power it makes. Later,
Speaking of dyno runs, last may I went with a few guys to dyno test a 66 Mustang with a modified 200ci inline 6. Granted, it costs more to get this kind of power from an inline 6 vs a 302 V8, but it just shows that you can make power from an inline 6. The final numbers were 211hp at the wheels and 227 ft lbs of torque at 4850 rpm. Here is the writeup on it if you are so inclined. Sadly, this car has never been down the dragstrip. However, a similarly prepared Mustang that I know of is running 14.30's in the 1/4 mile. http://classicinlines.com/PCdyno.asp
Nice run! Porting the heads should get you at least another 20 to the wheels. Probably more if you know what youre doing. I put 232/286 to the wheels with a nearly identical combo, only it had shorty headers and my home ported E7s.
