I bought a new 71 Comet GT. In 1971. It was black with silver stripes. I have a 1972 Comet GT clone that is black with silver stripes. It was an orginal 2 door sedan. Tan with tan cloth interior. Used all GT parts to clone it.
I ordered a black 1971 Comet GT with black interior. It had a silver stripe with flat black hood and taillamp panel. I still have the window sticker,it was ordered with bsw 6.45x14 tires, convenience group, floor mounted selector(3 spd for $13.10),am radio,GT package, heavy duty batt, and handling suspension package, with transportation it was $2790.80. Last summer bought a 72 gt 302 with a 3 spd on the floor, tan with brown buckets. When finished it will be a clone of my black 71.
A Marti Report would just specify it was a "Special Order" Paint and they don't specify the custom color that was ordered, Black was deffintly a Special Order , I dont see black on any of my Paint Chips from 70-77
Seen a black 70 Mav in the junkyard with a white basecoat... That one puzzled me... I always thought the point of having a black paintjob was to make it as black a possible
Well i guess in the long run there was a lot of black Mavericks and Comets made but still i have only seen one black Comet and that was at last years 3rd NMCC meet and greet in Milton in May. Black is beautiful baby.
