    Hie to all

I have a 1976 Ford Maverick 250L6. Last year I rebuilt the engine and now I realize that I need a New Carburetor -mine works but it gives me very low mileage (11.9 m/g :( )-. I went to a rebuilt carburetor shop, here in Tijuana, and they told me that I better get a new one... I do not know anything about this, I don even know what kind of carburetor I have right now!

Some one please help me... I don't have much money to expend on this and this year I'm planning to paint it. I’m glad that some one like me, that doesn’t know much about it, can find answers on this kind of sites.

    Thanks… I’ll post a photo next time

You'll want a Holley Street Avenger 570cfm carb for the 302 that you'll need to swap in...

I made some research and I found that the Holley Street Avenger 570cfm carb is not legal in California...
The Edelbrock Performer Carbs 500cfm or 600 cfm (both manual Choke) can fit too? If it so, which one is better for me?

Jose unfortunately all of those carbuerators will not work on your car unless it had a V-8 and 4 barrel intake.
You might try www.autokrafters.com and see if they have a rebuild kit or replacement carb for the inline 6 250.
I know you came here for help but apparenly not many of us have alot of experience with this carb

Jose, you might want to inquire with Autozone, Advance Autoparts, or for that matter, any auto parts store. You should be able to get a remanufactured carb or perhaps a new one at one of those places. I am a wondering a bit why you were told your carb was not rebuildable. If the throttle shaft gets too worn they leak gas or suck air. There are remedies to fix this. You could try another carb rebuilder in your area. Also, I would bet someone one this board will have what you need if you can wait. Keep us updated with your progress.

advance auto parts lets them go for around 100 dollars. a local rebuilder gets about the same.

:) Thanks to all for your replies

I still don’t know exactly what kind of carb do I have, but I check out in Rancho Auto Parts, Auto Zone, NAPA, FSP (Fuel Systems Parts) & others related stores and the average price for the carb that I need is $ 105~$115 plus installation.

Dan Starnes, I share your concern and I'm searching for a new carb rebuilder here in TJ and SD areas.
Scott, where did you bought that carb? Is it the same that I need?...

I finally found what kind of carb do I have... is a CARTER YFA 1 barrel.

Also, I found one place in SD where they can rebuilt my carb for $175 (installation include it). If I buy a new one it will be the same cost. What is better, buy a new one ore rebuilt mine?

    Thanks everybody for your help.

Get a new one...... Just an opinion. Its a pretty straight forward swap and it should be a nice tight carb if new.

Doesnt anyone here have a decent working carb off a 250?? I have one but I dont know how well it works. I will check it out.

geez.... really- i just paid 93 dollars for mine at advance auto parts. where do those guys in san diego get off charging so much? and a local rebuilder here get 120 if he takes it off, rebuilds and puts it back on.

    what carburator

Hey Hosei : see if you can find a triagular piece of aluminum on the carb somewhere. If it has one there will be a number on it that can be cross referanced over to determine the size. You can go to your local parts supply and have them look it up. hold on i will check it out for a 250 - 6 banger. Will get back to you. c if you can find any other numbers on the carb.
