    They are not all stupid!

Jean, I was in shock last Sat.afternoon. Had my car out for a spin for the first time in a month. While getting on the 4 lane I had to yeald to a 66 chevelle with 4 young guys in it. They about broke their necks gaucking at me an delibately slowed down so I would pass. When I did I had to look over at the gesters they where making and they all gave me thumbs up! Can you believe 4 bowties gave the mav. thumbs up! One of two things, they either liked it or thought it was a vega, but it still made my day! Joe H.

To tell you the truth, I have had a good number of chevy owners give positive comments on the Maverick. I think more than anything else they are just surprized to see something like a Maverick in a car show. It catches them off guard and they feel they must come and look at it. And I must admit not all of them are stupid. More often than not they will show an interest and will ask intelligent questions and actually listen to the answers. Sort of makes them sound like an alien race doesn't it?:p I'm more than happy to answer any question anyone might have and I really don't care what kind of car they own, but the fools who don't know squat about a certain type of cars should know better than to pretend that they do. BTW, I'm pretty sure the other guy who was asking about the Mavericks having V8's in them was the other idiot's buddy. I'm pretty sure he went back and set the jerk straight. Maybe next time it will make the guy think before he starts flapping his jaws. I'm fairly certain I will run into that guy again at another show. I'm thinking if I do and he comes near my car I'm going to yell, "Hey buddy! It's still stock!" and then I'm going to laugh my a** off.:D :p

Favorite of mine is when I was taking my 62 Falcon Ranchero to a show and some guy comes out of the store where I was getting gas and says "WOW! Nice looking El Camino".:hmmm:

Had a guy come into the body shop and ask me if the fender I was working on was for that Camaro. Nope thats my 72 Maverick. At least it was a bare shell so I gave the guy a break.
As a tech you get used to guys who know everything about nothing. We just have a good laugh at their expense later. I used to argue with them. Now its just funny.

I like the guys that say stuff like Why a Maverick?? Simple. I dont have to mortgage my house to build it. Weighs 2600 pounds, takes 275's in the wheel well and turns heads like mad. No matter what you do to a Camaro it looks like every other Camaro. How many Mavs do you see??

    I get a kick out of some of the comments;
"Hey man, them Vega GTs look just like a split bumper Camaro all fixed up"(referring to my '72 Comet)
"Them Grabbers run real good with that Boss 302 they come with"
"I know where you can get one of them frog-eyed hoods"
"That ain't no Grabber-they all had bucket seats"
    other car stuff;
"That's one em air Nomans ain't it"(referring to a buddies '57 Ford 2dr Ranch wagon)
I once looked at a pretty solid '66 Galaxie,w/the XL bucket seat interior. The guy told me that he had "the original 428 Cobrajet motor(it was a 390 2bbl car)and it had the matching Cobrajet(?)interior.Big surprise he was a Chevy idiot.
"Ford had to pay Chevy for the rights to the 302 engine"Oh really?Well, who has the rights to the 400,since everyone made 'em.And they really get bent outta shape when I call BS on that & ask them if Chevy had to pay Mopar for rights to the 350,since Plymouth had one in '58.
"All these Mustang boys are putting stripes on their cars to look like an old Chevelle"That a fact?Look more like Shelby stripes to me,maybe GM was striping Chevelles to...oh nevermind.
Remember the '90s Dodge Ram base model wheels?Kinda looked like a mutated Chevy truck rally.Chevy boy-"Looks like Mopars tryin' to copy Chevies wheels"They hate when you tell 'em Chrysler had that style wheel on '69-70 300s/Furys...at least a full 3-4 years before the Chevy truck rally came about.
    "I've got me a 350..FOUR BOLT MAIN!"Like I'm supposed to be scared.
"them gold motors are rockets(olds)they run better then them blue ones"
"them red 318s got more power then the blue ones"
Maybe I should paint my motor gold or red?
"I got me a Ford wit a 351 modified 400"Ok,which is it,or do you have an early version of a multiple displacement engine?
"The best truck would be a Ford wit a shiverlay motor"I guess they like a truck that doesn't rust out in every imaginable spot before it's 5 years old to put their 4 bolt 350.
    All 289s are HiPos
All 350s are either 4 bolt main/LT1/or Corvette
    all olds motors are Rockets...even '83 307s
The Chevy engineers must be pervs, all the good heads are identified by various "humps"
I've had it pointed out to me that Ford did indeed have a "200 high output"in the early Mavericks.Ok then.
All fox body GTs got the "Boss" 302,the LXs just got a plain 302.See above.
305 high output. An oxymoron if there ever was one.And GM actually called 'em that.
"I'm making more hp per liter than your v8"Yea maybe so.Too bad you're still less than 200 hp and you got over 10k under the hood.
Yep,people really are that stupid.Sorry for the long post,I got to venting a little there I guess.

Let's go back to the 80's, my dad owned a White '55 Ford with a 351C for power. It even in silver lettering had '55 Ford right in front of the dip in the side trim.

My dad and my cousin were out cruising in it and a couple of girls walked past and said "Nice Chevy."

I believe there is a word for this, it is called.........

    FAIL

The thing that really gets me worked up is when someone refers the 351c-351/400m as a bigblock. It's usually one of them cheby boys. I have to brake out the ford motorsport book to show 'em different.

The Boss 302 thing has to be my single biggest sore spot. Even guys who own Fords think they have a Boss 302 because a crappy old holley sits on it.
I try to educate the people who just dont know what it really is. Surprising how many people dont know what a real Boss 302 is. Its OK not to know thats how we all learn its the guys who argue it that get to me. I'm sure you guys have heard it as many times as I have. So many people know the term Boss 302 but dont know what it is. Funny thing is that it really wasnt a big hit on the street. The production units only ran 2 years and werent without issues. The early ones with cracked cylinder walls. The heads with sewer pipes for ports didnt perform that well on the street. This engine was built to race with tons of RPM.
Found one in a wrecking yard when I was in high school. Spotted the frost plugs and almost wet my pants. It was in a Cougar that was totally rotten. Thats right an eliminator. Nothing left of the car. The wreckers had no idea what it was. Bought the engine for 100 bucks as a 302. The car broke in half when the flipped it off its side to pull the motor. Engine was complete but siezed. Sold it for 900 at a swap meet. If we only had the stuff now we had back then. :hmmm:
