I'm not sure how to tell by casting numbers, but you could always measure the rod... I think they are different?

The C8 part number is a dead give away them being 302 rods.

well the C8 part number confuses some people since the 289 was produced for the first half of the '68 model year

All C8OE rods are 302 rods.Makes no difference that the 289 was produced up untill then. The C8OE rods were in production till 1991.

But they were produced with leftover parts. My cousin's block has 302 stamped on it.

    289 crank and rods, now a 292...

Don't have the numbers myself. The crank and rods were checked by his machinist, said they were 289. Guy knows his stuff on everything else we've talked to him about, got no reason to doubt him here.

I had a '68 302 one time. It had a 3-bolt damper & pass. side water pump inlet. I actually still have all the stuff off the front of the thing. It had the original sticker on it & everything.

I seen this too. Also I seen some 289 blocks with 302 heads. Ford is known for using up the parts bin
