I finally found the engine i want for my car and i will be picking it up on fri :D. The engine is a mildly built 302 with a 4 barrel. I would like to know what radiator i need to use. Will the one from the radiator from my 250 work?

it may work but your best off geting one of the alum. rads that have been offered on this site. the stock rad usually cant keep a mildly built v8 cool at freeway speeds.

250 radiator in good shape will cool a mild 302 fine.

I'd try it and see. If it is in good condition it may work. Also might want to try a shroud. If not, you can find a v-8 radator at most auto parts stores. If you want something good looking do a radiator search on here. There have been a few good aluminum radiators talked about here. I bought on that Jimmy Gates had a hand in. I haven't heard a bad thing about them and the price was reasonable for an aluminum radiator.:)

X2...The 6 banger rad will be barely effective at best W/a mild v-8.

You could always put a v8 shroud on it and try it.
Make sure to use a temp gauge. If it runs warmer than you like, AND you have ruled out other problems, then swap up to a bigger radiator. It won't cost you any more to try. If it works, you save dough, if not, then you needed a radiator and shroud anyway.

You need a second hand swapping it, just let me know, be glad to help. I love doing engine swaps.

Here is a link to the last I6 to V8 swap which I helped koopstamaverick up in Ellijay do on his '69.5: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=47045

Pay attention to the time stamps on the posts. Yea, we did it that quick. :rofl2:

We reused the radiator off his 170! I know he has been driving the car quite a bit, but I'm not sure how the 170 radiator is doing. Maybe he'll chime in here.

    www.rockauto.com lists two radiators for a 1974 302 V8 Mav-Proliance
433353 -with A/c, and 433423- with heavy duty cooling The one listed for a 250 I6 is listed as 433423- the same one as a heavy duty cooling V8. I bought my HD cooling 433423 off f eBay for $125 and it cools my 302 just fine. I am using an electric fan, have a cam and headers.

Not too sure but make sure the hoses are the same size. If my memory serves me correct the i6 is 1 1/4 hoses and the v8 rad is 1 1/2" hoses. Rads are cheap to buy and are invalueable insurance on any engine you have hard earned money in. Look on ebay....they are under 300 bucks. Cheap insurance if you ask me. I have a custom built 3 core high effiency for sale that cooled my 365hp 306ci in my comet. I will be upgrading to an aluminum for my 408w if youre interested. I live in Canada though.

The radiator for the 250 and 302 are the same. They use the same size hoses and are in the same place.
