After cleaning up my '73 Ford Mercury Comet under the hood I see that it is now idling too fast. Not sure what screw to turn. Any hint?

theres the throttle linkage on the carb, the thing that the throttle cable connects to and moves when you press the gas peddle. anyway that thing rests on the idle screw. the more you unscrew it the slower the idle gets

fast idle might also be the symptom of a vaccum leak as well. usually caused by a broken vac line, bad carb gasket, something like that

Vac leak... Choke stuck closed... choke fast idle cam stuck(not uncommon) throttle linkage binding somewhere...good luck.Check that stuff out BEFORE you turn any screws...

I agree with Mavman...if it ran fine before you messed around in the engine bay, but now runs high, you are more than likely going to find a knocked loose vacuum line or something. Find that first. If you mess with the screws now, you will have lots more work later to get it back to normal idling after you find the leak.
