Hey guys, is this electric fan set up you are using ,available for the stock 250 I 6 radiator? Also I am getting ready to replace the carburetor on my Comet, before I do is there a replace Carb / intake, available for my motor, does anyone out there know of a company that could Fabricate a more efficient intake that could accept a differernt Carb setup? Is there something that can be done to the existing intake? This engine has 250 cubes, there's gotta be an inexpensive way to get more than 98 horses out of this big of a six? Is there an EFI set up available,
I live 30 miles from work and getting better performance from the motor already in the car would be the option for me at this stage. :)

Clifford Performance sells hipo set ups for the 144 170 200 250 aND 300 FORD 6 CYL.
as far as replacement carbs go... the intake log is part of the head . you either keep what you have or you have to mill the log itself to adapt a two barrel plate for another carb. australian heads are available they have a intake log that is removable. good luck...Jim::D

    I-6 upgrades

Thanks for the Info fordknutt, I checked Cliffords web page and found their catalog , but it shows the date of 2002 I will contact them to see what they have, the motor I have is a good one and from looking at their website they claim over 200 horses on some of these set ups, I won't be drag racing but I'll surpise a few people, if i make these mods.. once I scrap the money together

Also check out Fordsix.com for info and help. The biggest killer on that year 250 is the lack of compression and the cam timing.

Ford used the same head on 200's and 250's those years with the same size chamber. To keep the compression ratio down on the 250, they designed the piston and rod to only lift the piston to a height of .140" below the deck. The actual CR on one of these early smog engines is only about 7.8:1....:( Couple that with a timing set designed to retard the cam several degrees and you end up with low cylinder pressures and low HP outputs.

The fix is to use an adjustable roller timing set, advancing the cam 4 degrees, and bumping the CR by milling the head and block. You can cut the block up to .060" and the head another .060. That will get your compression back to more reasonable levels. Plug the numbers into a compression calculator to find the exact results.

A better option is to use Tempo 2.5 liter HSC rods to eliminate the extreme deck height and restore compression. It has the added advantage of a better rod ratio as well.

Cheap stuff? Well, unfortunately there's no "magic bullet" that instantly gets you a lot of power. Electronic ignition and better exhaust are the best first two steps.

    I-6 mods

Hey Guys thanks for all the help, I want to impove my Comet but would like to keep as original as possible while still doing imporvements that will surprise a few rice burners. This car only has 71 k on it and it is very solid, was garaged 10 years so in Iowa that has really made a difference in how good the body still is, specifically the floors and subfame. Anyone know a good way to rustproof the underside of the car to make it last longer than the factory rustproofing (or lack thereof), how would i prepare the underside and what should I use to rustproof it? I know these cars have that problem and would like to do what I can to keep my car from rusting out once i get it back to being a daily driver. :)
