I just discovered the the fuel gage on my 75 is inop.

My question is there a panel in the trunk to gain access to the sending unit.

Mine has the mat and under that is tar paper stuff stuck to the trunk floor.

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

the sending unit is underneith by the left spring shackle.check for a good ground at the tank.with the key on,if you have someone watching the gauge, you can ground the single wire off the unit.it should change at the gauge.if not might be wiring to the gauge.hope this helps tim.:yup:

If you look under your car, on the left side of the gas tank you'll see the fuel line and 2 electric cable coming out of your tank.
    That's your sending unit.

Just empty your tank and get your sending unit out.

But i have the same problem right now: it's hard to find new sending unit for 75 and up.
Looks like you can put one for the 71 to 74 from AutoKrafter. Will work but will not be exactly accurate from what i heard.
I was actually going to send an e-mail to Autokrafter to see if they plan to make one for the 75 and up.

    good luck!(y)

Autokrafters used to sell one for the 75-77 but apparently the unit they patterned it after was wrong thus they discontinued it. That was a few years ago.

Thank Y'all for the help. I will check the ground.

If it is the sending unit it is a simple potentmeter.

My guess for the difference between the early mocels and the 75-78s is the increase in fuel cell capacity.
