Only to the junkyard. With the door nolonger able to close and no windshield, the left front sitting almost 2" higher than the right and with the car trying to make a permanent right turn, I chickened out an shut it down... Such a shame to lose to a Chevy.... Just kidding. That was a great Camero. I wish I could find one like it that didn't have a $20,000 price tag.
Thanks...I'll definately keep that in mind And work on stiffening the chasis. Looking at a 10 pt cage a long with plenty of subframe connections. I do not know if I posted here since I now have the space, tools, resources (people that are in the process, and have done the swap). thanks for the heads up! Jeff Given
I personally think you have a good idea. I wanted to do same to a 1970 maverick due to smog laws here. 71 and newer got to have it tested. You could make a web site if you know how of before picuters and everything. Then put what ya do and keep everyone up to date. Good luck with ya car!
BBF Mav Do it or change your sign on name. Just kidding. Try Global West, 877-870-2975 or www.globalwest.net or Fat Man Fabrications, 704-545-0369 or www.fatmanfab.com They both make frontend pieces that you're looking for. M2 or simialiar set, subframe connectors, 9" rearend, C-4 trans. A 460 weights in at appx 720#, and a 302 at appx 465#. Get rid of the power system, brakes, steering. Alum heads and manifold = 100# off the 720 or down to 620#. Get good fiberglass seats, fenders and hood. Alum rad and water pump, probably loose another 50-75#. Now with the cage and rearend you'll be putting more weight center and to the rear. Then with the less weight of a new tubar frontend pieces, maybe another 25# gone and the power BS gone off the frontend. Gee lets see, maybe only 50-75# more on the front end. Along with a HAUL ASS, BBF under the hood. Tell me you won't feel the need for speed. "Many are called, but few are choosen". Do it and be different. That's why you own a "Maverick" anyway.
i don't know what all you been writing but i have ADD when it comes to long posts but i since the orginal question was about a 460 in a maverick i thought i'd post a picture of one. i posted this awhile back but here it is again. this car was a total sleeper! its got a mustang II front end on it and it fits under the stock hood!
Actuallly I plan on doing it with an oem MII front... And I plan on making a site dedicated to it...we'll see how that turns up I suppose. Rialto is pretty much right in my back yard though. The 520 has aluminum heads, aluminum tunnel ram, will have either an electrical or a aluminum h2o pump. Trans is going to be a built 5 speed. The 9" will be from Currie. Thanks a lot! Jeff Given
