Hey All, I have a 71 Maverick and the heat is not working nor the dome light. I checked the fuse block which I found a bad fuse but I cannot read the amps on the fuse due to it being worn down so bad. Might be the original. Does anyone know which fuse runs the heater blower motor/dome light? Sure could use the heat!!!!!
14 amp for non ac cars, 30 for factory air. The dome light is a different circuit. It is also a 14 amp.
71 Maverick Heater Fuse Mavaholic, I should change my name to something like that because I am really liking this car. Ok, I checked the fuses and it does say 14A under that rust so I will replace it to see if works. Also, would the dash lights be on the same circuit as the heater fuse? Thanks for any and all help. 71 Maverick Heater fuse I assume you are talking out the firewall area. Sorry, not that technical of a guy. The floor board has a hole diagonal to the brake pedal so rust seems to be an issue with this particular car. (certainly not the one in your profile ). I was told this car sat for quite some time. As a side note, can you recommend an exhaust system. I like the flowmaster sound and Midas quoted me about $120 installed. does that sound fair? Thanks. Maverick Barber
Poor some water into each side of the vents just in front of the windshield. See if the water ends up in your floor. Check out this thread from Mavaholic http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=36382&highlight=tin+termites What are you getting for $120? I am guessing just a muffler installed.
71 Maverick Heat/Exhaust The flowmaster muffler installed runs about $120. Are there any good "aggressive" sounding mufflers out there for less?I hear lots about Flowmaster. Man I have got my hands full with this car. I need to slow down and make sure everything gets done right, one thing at a time. I just don't want to pay too much. I just had a complete brake overhaul on all four wheels (seals, drums, hardware, master cylinder...etc) for $1200. Ya think that was too pricey?
Tie Rod ends Has anyone ever had to replace the tie rod ends on their Mav? I think I may need mine done due to the excessive vibration and pulling to the right. It's almost like I have to fight against the pulling while driving? When I am at a stop and let off the brake without hitting the gas I can see the steering wheel jerking or wobbling back and forth.
I think you need to learn to do a lot of that stuff yourself. If you keep putting that much money into it, you'll lose interest pretty soon. Get yourself a Chiltons Manual. Have you checked the ball joints and shocks to see if there loose. Wait on the muffler til you figure what you're going to do. Don't get stuff done only to have to do it again if you change your mind about things. And like Allan said pour some water into the cowls and see if it ends up inside. If it does this is a major undertaking, even for a body shop. Good luck.
71 Maverick Drivers side floor board Evidently the previous owner cut out a square on the floor board (why I don't know) and it's gets a bit drafty. Anyhow, I am going to buy the material to put down and have located a welder. Would the kind you buy at Lowes suffice and should I get about the same thickness as the floor board? Thanks.
