    Hello everyone,

Has anyone installed a 351W into a Maverick that has power disk brakes? After installation of the power booster w/ master cylinder, I learned that the booster leans out abit into the engine bay. I currently have a 200 CID, but plan to install a 351W this summer BUT AM CONCERNED THAT THE BOOSTER WILL HIT THE HEAD VALVE COVER. Is this True or is there just enough room to fit the 351W. I'm using FMS valve covers on my 351W. Any advise is greatly appriciated.

    Thanks,
    Jay

Yes, you will have a problem. May have to go to manuel brakes or fab up a smaller vacuum assembly from another car.

    Bummer, optional power booster?

    Hello and thanks for responding.

BUMMER. I would rather have power disk brakes than the 351W BUT would be awesome to have both.

What about....using any other type of power booster/master cylinder combo from another vehicle? Any suggestions or practical applications? THANKS A MILLION.

seen one where they had the booster on with stock type valve covers think they had to put a dent in both the booster and the cover but it was in there
i don't mind nonpower brakes mine are still 4 wheel drum stops real good the 1st time have to hit them hard but after that its all down hill

Four wheel manual drum brakes, yes I agree, they do work fine. I had a setup similar on my 72 Maverick w/ 302 and they work fine; however, I do recall having braking problems when it rained or unbalanced braking when deccelarating at harder times. I do appriciate your response. Keep rolling buddy;-)

    :D

My point is I need to know who from our forum, currently has this setup (a 351W with power disks brakes) before I go into this project. Need to know what they found, if it fits, if not, what needed to be changed, changed to what, did it work, you know... all that technical stuff to make smart decisions to plan accordingly before the big day of purchase and installation.

I know there is someone out there who has done this conversion and I'm waiting for their response which will be greatly appriciated.

    Later fellow Mavesters.

    remove the booster

if you put a vacuum booster on, how did it clear the support arms that go from the back of the engine bay to the shock towers?
ive seen a power disc setup in a late model maverick, and it had a strange looking twist on the driver side support, to clear the vacuum booster. this car was an inline 6.
i would recommend that you just remove the power assist. it is disc brakes, right? it should stop fine, and leave you with a more authentic feel for the car/road.
it'll save you some engine vacuum too.

ive got a V8, drum brakes, and no power assist. im quite satisfied with the way it stops. i dont think the additional weight of a 351 would make a drastic difference.

perhaps a smaller vacuum booster could solve the problem.
i know when the falcon people convert to disc brakes, the use granada parts, with the exception of a Geo master cylinder/vacuum booster.
do some research, it might work for you
