For some reason when I use my turning signals my hazards come on in the back. The front turning signals are fine. I changed all my fuses and even replaced the flashers. Any clue? Also my fuel gauge does not work. I checked the connection at the tank and traced it to the instrument panel. I dismantled the instrument panel and found the gauge to be in good condition. DO you think it might have to do something with the tank? It sucks because I have to guess how much gas is in the tank. HELP!! Thank you
When you say the hazards come on, I assume you mean both tail lights are flashing not matter which turn signal you are using? Sounds like the wires are crossed together somewhere? Of course, as always, check and be sure all your grounds are good. As for the fuel gauge, the first thing I always do when working with a non operational fuel gauge, is to take a piece of wire and pull the plug loose from the gas tank. Short the two terminals in the plug together. Then turn the key to ON. If the fuel gauge pegs over to the full mark, then the problem is the sending unit. Let us know what happens when you do that.
In my 74 it was the voltage regulator that was bad. It is mounted by the gage on the gage panel. But like Jamie said I would check the sending unit first.
As for the turn signals if you track the wiring down and don't find any shorts or anything then it is probably your turn signal assy in the column. I have seen alot of people who have problems with them (including myself) so I would say they are prone to failure after 36 years.
Turns out it was the Fuel sending unit. I had it replaced. And for the turning signals I guess the turn signal assembly on the column was faulty. I also had that replaced. Thanks again everyone!!
