How do you keep from scratching your new paint job with your sloppy window cranks? I am almost ready to go to the painter and don't want to see the inside panels get trashed. Can anyone help? What to do?
Mark; I think that you could retap the screw hole and use a larger screw, if that is the problem. If the regulator is shot, take one from your parts car and put it in. Other than that, don't know what else to do. I have a '69.5, and the window handle doesn't reach the painted section of the door. It just stays in the door panel area. Hope this helps. Earl
window handles Mark The best thing to do is replace the handles with a new set. You do not have to get handles just from a maverick, as almost any ford handle will do. In fact, GM handles will fit. All you have to do is drill a hole in the center to screw it to the regulator and the teeth in the handle will match the ford pattern. I have 1964 chevrolet handles in my 1987 ford truck. All I did was drill the center hole to mount it. Tony
Thanks for the help guys! The problem is not the crank handle itself, but the part it connects to. I put the granada handles on and also added two small washers to the inside of the crank handle. This "built up" the crank and kept it from rubbing the door pannel. It was a "shade tree" rig, but it keeps it of the paint! This did not salve the problem but it did get me by till a later time. Thanks all!
Mark; go to AutoZone and get the shields just for the problem you have. They are called 'escucheons', and they are plastic shields that go inside of the handle for the handle to ride on, and protect the door panel. The are cheap, and work great. If the handle will not fit on the post, and is wobbly or worn out, and new ones won't work, you probably need a new regulator. Good luck, Earl
