I re-introduced myself the other day and I thought since my post went away that I had already made everybody mad at me and ya'll deleted me. lol I was happy to learn it was a PC mess up. I went today and pulled my new 72 Maverick out from under the briar tree, out into the clear so I can get to it with the trailer. First, I have been a member several years but sold my Maverick parts cars before I could get them running. I ran across this one looking for a cheap car for my daughter to replace her wrecked 96 Mustang. She was real upset with me when I sold the other ones as she wanted one for her daily driver. This ine is a 72 School teacher's car. She bought her new. It is a 200/c4 with PS and PB. Other than that and an AM radio that is it. lol Does not have the chrome on the bottom side of the side windows and no chrome hardly anywhere else. There is some rust and the floors a soaked but still fill solid. We'll see. There is some rust through at the corners of the doors and a small bit along the bottoms of the rear quarters. Some small bubbles elsewhere but over all I think I can fix it. The body is straight except a small crease on the right rear quarter. The seats were re-done a couple of years before they parked it. It was parked mainly due to the lady not being able to drive any more. She was running perfectly when she was parked according to them. I will try and load pictures tonight or tomorrow when I get her home and cleaned up Ya'll wish me luck. I had to put the Bronco in 4x4 low in order to pull her back about 20 feet. All of the tires are flat and square. Ought to be real fun loading up. Clint
If everything goes well I hope to bring her home tomorrow. No rain and the older folks have no Doctor appointments that is. I have a set of tires for her lined up. Now I just need a hood and 2 doors and or learn how to repair rusted body panels. lol Mechanical work I can manage. Body work i have only worked on my 71 F100 getting it ready to paint. No rust is popping out pn her in places 8 years after painting her. Still undecided on doing the 3.8 engine swap from the wrecked 96 Mustang. I think it would be a neat swap and would probably be pretty strong and economical but I am concerned about the actual swap and getting everything to fit. The Maverick has a 200/c4 that was running when parked but the owner cannot really tell me how long it has been parked either, Looks of things I figure around 8 years or so Going to need alot of ya'lls help that is for sure. Reading everything I can find on here now. Thanks for the warm welcomes clint
Welcome back, Clint! Several pics of the 74 in posts and my gallery. Get them pics of yours posted and we'll get started helping you out!
Bad news everybody. I have decided that financially I have to back off of the Maverick and fix my daughter's 96 Mustang. I have to do what is right for the family. I am going to talk to the owner and see if I can have a couple of weeks before buying the Maverick. He didn't have it up for sale anyway so maybe he will work with me on this. I REALLY,REALLY want this car! Meanwhile I am going to tear into the 96 Mustang and try and get it back on the road. That way my daughter will be able to give me back my 86 Bronco and the money saved on gas mileage will help buy the maverick. A teenager madly in love with a boy sure doesn't understand much about gas mileage. lol I appreciate everybody's warm welcome though. This website has not changed much at all in the year or two I was gone. Still full of a bunch of nice people highly knowledgeable about Mavericks and Comets among other things. I'll keep y'all posted Clint
Brought her home today With the help of a friend with a real nice tilt trailer and a winch I brought my new 72 Maverick home today. Several flat tires and one locked up brake did not slow us down with his nice trailer set up. It turns out to have a 200-1v in it with an automatic c4 I assume. I just now got the hood latch freed up enough to raise it. The owner thought it had a 250. I am very surprised at the shape of the engine. The car has been sitting in a field since 1984. The engine is NOT locked up. I can turn it with the fan blade. I figured the rings would be stuck at least. The PO told me that he pulled the tranny pan and put in new fluid before they parked it also so the tranny might be OK. He was an old timer that was a mechanic his whole life. The engine in this car is still clean and looks like it still has everything on it that came on it from the factory. All of the stickers, vacuum lines, are still on it. It still has what looks like the factory heat riser hose going to the breather. I will get pictures tomorrow. I am very happy with my car so far. I know there is cowl work as well as floor board work but I sure am happy with her I am back! Clint
