Greetings from Iowa, Well i am finally under my comet looking to replace the vacuum modulator valve , got advice from this forum, that my shift out of park problem might be caused by this being bad. My question how does it attach/ remove, the tranny mount appears to be in the way, this is the only part I can find under there that has vaccum lines going to it, also they are steel lines
I traced them up under the hood, one goes to a connector on the firewall, and the other goes to a connector under by the manifold they appear to be vacuum lines , but descriptions I got off this forum indicate the modulator valve has one hose. am I looking at the right piece? , is Tim or Dave Shea or Dan Starnes out there.

if you are not sure what it looks like, go to the advance auto parts or auto zone nearest you and get one. he is gonna ask you "threaded or not..." tell him you don't know so you want both. you'll just return the one you don't need. if you want, e-mail me with your phone number and i'll be happy to talk about it.
todmeg@aol.com put "mav" in the title bar so i don't dump it. i have done this a few times. it is easy... just kind of intimidating the first time.

The solid steel lines are the auto trans cooling lines and should go up to the radiator.
The modulator valve is held in by a bolt and clamp arrangement..
The part has a rubber 'O' ring to keep trans fluid from leaking out.

mine had two steel lines that run on top of the tranny. on the end there were short rubber hoses that went to the valve. when i replaced mine i put the valve that had one conn.for a hose and did away with the other line. j.m.o. ...frank...:bananaman :bananaman

Our 74 had two steel vaccuum lines that ran along the top of the trans to the modulator. Our modulator had two vac. ports. We just changed it to a one port modulator to simplify the vac. hoses. Had to modify the clamp that helkd in the mod. valve when we changed it. There was/is a short length of rubber tubing between the steel tuing and the mod. valve.

Thanks for the info guys,it sounds like I don't need to drop the trann mount to get it switched out, correct? I'll get the part then have another look probably won't get back under there until next sat now, I'm doing all my work in the driveway. and it is raining here now, the advice is very appreciated. By the way anyone know about bucket seat swaps to lose my bench seat. I may have some buckets from a topaz I can get for free. anyone know of any junk yard swaps that will work with out a lot of hassle? . how hard is it to find buckets and hardwear from a mav or comet,

By the way to Scott (at MCCI), I just sent off ,my club membership form and dues check for MCCI, I hope to hear back from the club soon. I will take you up on that offer about the phone call , thats really cool for you to offer the help like that, can't wait to get her road worthy so I can get to a Round Up, My 13 year old daughter has her eye on my Comet for her first car, I may let her use it but I gotta say .. She can't have it. he ha ... She is honestly the only one in the family that understands what the Comet, represents ... INDIVIDUALITY... My first car was a 4 door mint condition '75 Mav, ( back in '81) it was totalled by the red headed step child.. Pinto.. with no brakes. Anyhow, I wasn't looking and found this not so rough diamond of a 74 Comet with 71k original miles, it sat in a garage for 10 years before I bought it. I finally got the wife to part with some money to get it road worthy, It's only right though I had the Comet first!! he ha .. needed a starter and a few little things plus this weird tranny problem, I hope this will be answer to the problem I am having.. anyway. I look forward to being added to what appears to be a great group of enthusiasts for a very underated car.
