I have two Mavs and one is going to be used as a parts car for the other. Does anyone have any thoghts on whats better:
Disassemble the parts car to see what I have or disassemble the car being restored to see what I need. Thanks.

it should be fairly obvious what the "good" car is going to need without taking it down to bare bones. unless your planning a ground up restoration that calls for that.

id definatly strip EVERYTHING off the parts car though, wether you think you'll need it or not. and even if you dont end up using something you may be able to further fund your project by selling the "left overs" on here.

wouldnt happen to have any pics of the cars in question to post up do you?

I would tear down the restoring car, clean real good......then pull stuff off the parts car, clean and put in restore car. That will help me not forget where everything goes :bananaman

And a box of giant zip-lok bags and a sharpie... to keep nuts, bolts, and FASTENERS with the item they belong to and WRITE THE LABEL ONTO THE BAG. I think there's a new monster zip lok that will hold something as big as a carb.

It's the smallest (missing) clip that prevents you from putting - say - a carb back together and reinstalling it. (Obviously I did this). When I go to a wrecker I spend more time getting the small stuff than anything else.

When you have things off the car for a few months you tend to forget what held it on.

Get the interior out of the car - pristine seats and dash covers should be inside and not exposed to the weather if your parts car is gonna sit outside for years. Also, mice tend to invade cars sitting for a long time. They nest inside heater ducts and eat seats. My van sat for a year and the engine was COVERED in rat poop. Health hazard when the engine gets hot. When I started it, fur came out of the tailpipe.

:D cool, thanks for the feedback. My main 3 goals are:
    1. Body work repair and paint
    2. Interior
    3. Engine - I dont know a whole lot so all I can do is add some color wires and chrome parts where possible.

I will try to get started in 2-3 weeks. i will also go out and take some pics today and try to post this weekend.

looking at it I would suggest doing it the other way. The green LDO is a V8 car and has the 5 lug rims and axle and the blue one has the more undesireable 4 lug rims. That and if you were going to keep the v8 everything is already set up. Plus the sport mirrors, high back buckets, magnum 500 rims already ect ect....

Unless there is some cowl/floorpan/body rust issues with the aqua colored one, I have to agree ... why are you leaning toward restoring the blue one?

They both look like they can be brought back (... and should! :thumbs2:), but the aqua one does already have most of "the good stuff".

    Does it have disc brakes?

Were you going to use the LDO interior? If so, just want to make sure you know you need to use the later doors. The inner door area changed in 73.

As far as I can tell they both have a pretty solid body. The aqua colored one is the one i just got. I have a non-highway title for it. I guess it never crossed my mind to rescue the aqua color and use the blue as a parts car.

I wouldn't use either as a parts car. Both are VERY restorable. I know many guys who would love to have either as a starter.

If I were you, I would choose the best (aqua???) and keep it, sell the other for cash to buy parts for the one you keep.

There are lots of parts cars out there that are trashed and not restorable for a reasonable price. What you have, depending on floor and cowl rust, appear to be nice starter cars and not part cars.
