I thought Id share my project from start to finish. I'm calling it "NOBODY WANTS ME!" The reason being is I had it for sale for what I thought was a fair price and the car did not sell. I had it on Ebay with 9 people watching, tons of questions and a low starting bid of $250 or BIN for $500 and she did not sell. I don't think the car is worth scrapping so I've decided to make a drag car out of it. 10/1/08 I started the tear down even tho a lot has been taking off already. I got the seats and the carpet out. The floors have one small spot of rust on the passenger side front floor and a little bigger rusted out spot on the drivers side front floor. Other than that the floors are solid. Took a bunch of parts out of the engine bay. I must of vacuumed 20 pounds of sand out of the car so far. Over all I'm glad I have a great starter for my project.:bananaman Plans as of now are: Install full chromoly roll cage with funny car cage and get the body work done! Not sure on motor yet. I'm thinking of doing a Yates headed 302 for it. Thanks for the look. King, I wouldn't take it to personally that the car didn't sell on eBay.....I have a 89 Mustang coupe body I tried to sell on there a few weeks ago that only got bid up to $200, and that was with a set of aluuminum wheels on it that were worth that much! Right now, money is tight for most people, and they're not spending on toys as much. Just look at it this way, You have a great project now and a good place here to find out things! Welcome to the board!
Keep it and build it .... one piece at a time .......... :bananaman Those front floor pans look like the dreaded cowl leak...... cause the rears don't look bad at all.
It's nothing personal. The way I see it, it was meant to be this way. I tried for two years to get this car from the guy. But I have another project, 47' Hudson that I'm working on, so once I got the car I figured I'd have to let one go, but no one wanted the Comet. My last ride was a 82' Mercury Capri Yates Headed 302, running the low nines. What a blast that was. Here is a picture of my last ride. Thanks King
Hey, I think it is good that you are going to undertake this project rather than toss it to the junkyard or part it out. I believe we need to keep as many of them on the road as possible.
Excellent point! A number of Mavericks have been listed on Ebay and many, if not most, have not met their reserves. Money is tight right now and so is credit. You can't get a used car loan on an old car from most banks & credit unions. You pay cash or get a higher interest personal loan and you had better have excellent credit if you want one of those.
Sounds like a great project! Good Luck! Also on ebay,,, lots of times i "WATCH" items an have NO intentions to bid
Thanks everybody! I got a little bit more done tonight. I had my 6 year old son with me. He just loves helping out. We got the dash, heater box and wiper set up out. Worked on the engine bay and got just about everything I could out of there. The motor should be out over the weekend. Thanks for looking.
