I'm restoring a 71 Comet for my brother. He wants GT seats. We haven't been able to find any. I was wondering if the seats from a 71 Mustang would fit a Comet. I figure the seat tracks are different so I would also need a couple sets of GT seat tracks. The Mustang seats may not look exactly like the factory Comet seats, but that is OK, they should be close to the Comet shape. Would they fit? If so, I can start looking for some Mustang seats or whatever else has basically the same shape as the Comet seats. PS the car came with a couple padded race type seats and he wants regular seats. He wants white seats so whatever we get will no doubt need to be re-upholstered. In fact, he would need an entire white interior... Thanks. Danford1
I need the seat racks I need the seat tracks for the Comet. They did not come with the car as purchased. Danford1
They can be found if you are patient. They show up on ebay ... and you will want to post a wanted ad in the classified section on the forum. Do a search for threads on "seat tracks"..... you will find everything you need to know about the swap.
The high back bucket seat tracks are tough to find. I was lucky enough to run across a set in a old iron pull yard. They were out of a 73 comet. From researching on this forum I have found some great information on seats. 71-73 mustang seats are the same as 71 -72 Grabber high back buckets. 73 maverick high backs are different than the 71 - 72's and repairing the foam is pretty much impossible. You can purchase new foam for the 71-72 grabber high backs. If you want exact replicated seat covers that came out of a maverick grabber you can contact Fred on this site. He does incredible upholystery and makes seat cover that are identicle to what you would have found in those year mavericks. If you find a set of seat tracks for a Maverick high back bucket seats make sure you get the spacers with them. Mine are good except one of the bigger aft spacers and I have found that they are tough to find. So if anyone has a spare drop me a line.
