I want to change my rear axle on my inline 6 200-ci 71 maverick, but the problem is that I don't know anything about rear axles. I just decided to change them because my neighbor told me if I want to drop a 302 or any v8 engine I have to change the rear axle or it might pop off? what do I need to change my rear axle and where can I get the things I need.?

how much HP you plan on running? if its something mild i wouldnt be worried at all

i just yanked the straight 6 out of my 72 and dropped in a 351W and im going to run it with the stock 4 lug rear axle with the fullest of confidence in its ability to handle it ;)

but unless you plan on yanking the front end of the car off the ground when you hit the gas i think you'll be ok. the rear found in v8 mavericks wasnt too much diffrent then that of a 6 cyl car. sure there were a few diffrences but nothing that would make or break it. the 5 lug bolt pattern on the early v8 cars was really the only advantage or diffrence

    I've had a few
The axles in these cars are the same as what's in a 9 inch. Your not going to have any problems as long as you have a relatively mild engine and don't go side stepping the clutch at like 5,000 RPM.
