i finally got the swap done, it took 3 or 4 days, most of which was spent finding frame mounts. i used frame mounts from a fairlaine, we just drilled a hole through it for the frame and then for the motor mount. It is a 302 out of a 91 f100 with a c4 out of a 83 mustang. holley 600 and edelbrock performer. when we took the pan off it looks like the crank has been destroked, we dont know what other mods might have been done. i bought the bigger springs but didnt use them cause i wanted to see what i looked like but it doesnt look any lower than before. i got hedman hedders but they wouldnt fit so i ordered some more from summit that were made for the mav and they bearly fit. i have the b&m quick silver floor shifter and it is really cool, but i havent figured out how to get the collum shifter off. ill try to post some picks later if i can figure it out has anyone tried putting after market gauges in the dash? and what parts are needed to redo front suspention so i can get my alingnment done?
Congratulations on the swap. I don't know of any reason to destroke a 302 crank. Kind of defeats the purpose.
its got alot of torque, i spins the tires for about 3 to 5 seconds before it takes off, and it TAKES OFF
The column shifter is held in by a roll pin. You'll need a punch and a hammer to drive the roll pin out from the bottom side. Pretty easy.
@#$#$@#$$%^%^^!!!!! bad motor, its knocking and rattling. we think the crank or a rod is broke and the piston skirts. but now im getting another 302 with 289 heads double timming chain, so it probably has a cam too. all it needs is a gasket set plus swaping all my parts to it from this other motor. oh and the motor is only $150. would i need a new starter for all that compression?
I hate mystery motors. I would prefer one that is bone stock and never opened up, or one that has been worked on with receipts and or part numbers and the name of the shop that did the work. Lesson learned with your motor number 1. Good luck on number 2. Your starter should be fine.
If that transmission was original to an 83 Mustang, it's not a C-4 but a C-5. Most like a rod is broken before the crank. The 91-up 5.0's got weaker rods than the previous ones. I've seen two of these with broken rods. In the early 80's it was the early 50 ounce cranks that had a rep for breaking in two
