I just seen this grabber today with a factory sun roof. How rare are they? How much would they be worth?

Not sure I've ever heard of a "FACTORY" sun roof on a Grabber.

It would be "dealer installed" as opposed to "factory".
Dealer installed is just one step above "dun it muhself"...:)

I'm guessing it's dealer. He said it was factory? I guess that is what he meant

I have seen 70 Dodge Chargers with factory sunroofs. I am told they were all dealer installed. I would imagine there might have been some dealers that installed sunroofs on Mavericks and Comets. It really was a big thing back then. I am glad of two things. Never bent to the pressure of peers of installing a sunroof and never bent on making my car pro-street, which was huge also.

One step away from a big roof leak and wet seats here in Florida, ... but you haven't seen it rain until you live in the tropics ... (y)

You don't see anything from the 70s with T-tops that survived here .... :rofl2:

Factory FORD--one of none. Dealer or aftermarket installed. Even the T-Top Mustangs were done after the car was built. The fox body convertibles were done by a company called Cars and Concepts, they probably did a lot of the T Tops, too.

Yup, when I ordered my 88 Stang GT it was a wait of 6 months. I wanted a convertible. Wait on a standard GT was 12 weeks, (Same as my Stallion) so I went that route. Still have the Stang,, 14K original miles, the plastic is still on the floor from the factory over the carpet. The t-top cars have not survived well, and you hardly see many sunroof cars.

Installing aftermarket sunroofs was a big thing back in the mid to late 1970's. When I worked at MAACO :hide: back then they really pushed those things. I can't remember if we ever installed any in a Maverick, but I do remember this: they all leaked like a screendoor on a submarine. They should have included umbrellas and wading boots in the sales package. From everything I read or seen a factory sunroof was never an option on either Mavericks or Comets. At least FORD did something right in that department.

I have a magazine article doing a comparison test with the 'brand new 1971 Mercury Comet GT'.

It clearly has a sunroof similar to the style that were available in VW bugs. I have never seen one in person, but I doubt that Mercury handed over an aftermarket modified car for a test article. Perhaps it was in the works and was cancelled just after production started.

I suspect that Craig or Chuck S. has seen the article I am talking about.

I had a Ford in the past with a retractable sun or moon roof wish it was a Maverick but now thinking it was kind of a rare car sorry guys it was a mustang II but with a 302 v2 there was a crank that you turrned on the roof and it would pop down then disappear into the headliner it was a really sweet car I think thiis is one of the cars I had that I would pull the front tire off then use a hole saw for easy access to the plugs
