where is a good place to get a plastic 16 gallon fuel cell with a ford sending unit? i called summit and they only have gm sending unit tanks and jegs has one but they want $230 for it(plus shipping). is there another source that you have used? or someone have one to sell? my steel tank has sprung a pinhole and collects rust and water. i have pumped it twice and still am getting water into the tank. now it is leaking and time to go away. fuel cell will solve this problem. autokrafters has a steel tank but by the time i buy it and the parts and ship it i could buy 2 fuel cells. any help would be appreciated.
yea, as you know there aren't many maverick/comet parts cars in florida. unfortunately i sold the tank i had out of the 4 door.

I would not have sold anything until I knew what I needed. Just ask my wife, she's still waiting for me to start getting rid of stuff. That said.. I have a tank from a 71, but it's got a good size dent in it where the car was either dropped off the jack or backed over something really big. I had another tank so I didn't have to fool with trying to straighten it. Let me know if you can't find anything else.
if you're going the route of fabricating for a fuel cell to fit, why not use the mustang gas tank kits from a 64-66 type mustang? thats what i did, after reading a tech article on here about the conversion... they're like 149 with sending units and everything, but you will need to buy about 25 dollars worth of extra parts (vent and grommet) and paint it, but it works great, and i keep the trunk space.
The only one that I know of is M.A.S.and they are 230-250.00 like you said,been there done that,and I seached all my suppliers for my race shop and that's the only one I found,and mine was back ordered for about a month before it came in.
Since I wrote that article, several reliable people have told me they used the larger 69-70 tank and it worked just as well. I believe they did not have to shorten the straps for the larger tank. As an added feature, it gives you lots more room on the drivers side for larger tail pipes.
That's a great price on that tank. Just keep in mind that it's for the 76-77 and you'll need the correct straps and sending unit for it. From what I have read from others there will be slight interference on the rear valance too. Also, you won't get the exhaust clearance the Mustang tank will give you.
When I got my 73, it had one of these tanks in it, they used the factory straps, just with longer bolts, with the 73 fuel sender, and it clears my rear valance (which was NOS, and not bent in any way) Works great for me since my exhaust dumps behind the rear wheels.
