Yet another question from me, when I go to apply the brakes the pedal goes almost all the way to the floor and it takes a while for the car to stop, it has good pads/rotors/shoes on the front and back and Ive bled all 4 and replaced the fluid.(beeding them worked a little for a few miles then it just gradually went back to the way it was)

Also every so often my brake light will come on for no reason, if I push the pedal all the way to the floor I'll hear something pop behind the pedal and the light will go off.

Any ideas what could be causing this? This is the first older car Ive had so Im not sure what it has on it that could be causing it, I figured it could be the brake booster but figured Id check with you guys before I start dumping more money into something that doesnt need to be replaced.

    Possibly a bad mastercylinder.

    Brake probems are a pain...

It sounds like you have a leak, does your fluid level get low? I have mastercylinders leak on the back side where it bolts to the brake booster. I would start by checking fluid level, if its low then I would start looking for the wet spot.. If the fluid is Not low, the mastercylinder may be losing its prime??

Look for a leak.Lines/hoses/wheel cylenders/calipers...back side of master cyl.if you find no leaks and as stated above you lose no fluid.Bad master cylender.if and when you replace the master.Bench bleed it... dont bleed it on the car.Good luck.

    Thanks for the replies. :D

No leaks, so I guess its the master cylinder...hmm...how much do those run...looks like from $15 to $100+.

Ill need a master cylinder and a master cylinder kit right?

Which brand is the best? I dont want to go all el-cheapo with this car, if Im going to replace something I want to do it right...if possible post a link to where I can purchase what you recommend...my zip is 22849 if you need it.

    Thanks :)

Your local auto parts house will be the best place. Easy to return if you get a bad replacement...

I bought 2 brand new ones from NAPA, for under 60 bucks each. The key is that they are brand new, not some rebuilt junk. I bought a rebuilt one for 27 bucks, and it looked like it was pulled from a swap.

we bought a "brand New" one and put it on Earls car, had to replace it the next week. :yup:
being it was 3 times the price of a rebuilt, we thought it might have set on the shelf untill the seals dry rotted..

    ...DFF...

does your mav have power brakes? if not then you defintly need a new master cylinder. if you do then you may have a problem with the booster or its check valve or the vac hose from the intake to the booster
