Well I got my engine done everything is hookup but, the darn engine will not start. It wants to start but, nothing. I have gas, spark from coil. Everything is new expect coil which came from the old engine which works and the distributor came for the rebuilt engine don't know if its good I'm guessing its good. I have set the distributor up but, no good. I would like to get this running by Saturday to pick the wife up from the train and surprise her. If anybody in the Bremerton or Seattle area could help that would be nice. I'm running out of ideas. I'll leave my phone number if anybody wants to call it might be faster than email. 360-308-0422
I would think if you're getting gas it would most likely be spark related. I'd pull the #1 plug, lay it on the intake and try to turn it over. See if there is a spark to the plug. Good luck.
What kind of ignition set up are you useing.Points/electronic ignitoin... Are you positive you have the dist installed properly timeing wise.Your carb has gas in it and squirts fuel when you pump the throttle???
Its a 75 mav with electronic ignation. The engine is a 250. I don't know if the distribtor is setup right. Accord to the book chilton I think I have it set but, not sure.
You need to be positive its installed properly before you go any further.Would you like me to just call you???
Since I posted this in the wrong thread I'll put it here too. I had the same problem 2 weeks ago when I tried to start my 302. It was popping and putting on a pretty good light show in the carb. I kept thinking it was 180 out, but I was sure I did that right. After f__king around for another 30 minutes i decided to swap the wires on the distributor 180 degrees and wouldn't ya know the damn thing fired right up. I guess I shouldn't been drinking when I put the distributor in
Update on the engine rebuilt. I was getting real pissed with the car so I, gave PaulS a call. After talking to him several times, I redid the distributor timing and set the piston at TDC and figured out where to setup the distributor. It got to the point of draining the battery trying to start it. After much fighting with it (at this point car was ready for parts car) wife says yea right. I got it running some what but, it will not idle. Well today I got it. I lost count on how many times I reset the distributor. It started again but, no idle than a light turned on - carb. Yes, I was getting gas into the carb. So I filled a jar full of gas and sowly started to pour it down the carb and sure enough the engine was going. This tells me that the carb was running out of gas and not getting any more. I changed filters and than took the top off of the carb, cleaned the float and jets. Now I have to put it back on to see if it works. The part I don't understand is I rebuilt this carb 3-4 weeks ago from the engine that I replaced and now something happened to it. Since it was sitting for about a week and a half it shouldn't need another rebuilt.
float stuck the needle shut. Its why your not supposed to tip a carb over on its side or upside down. You may have done that after removal before it went on the new engine. Make sure the float hasnt stuck the needle on the seat before you put it back together.Definitely make sure you are getting fuel from the pump to the carb...
The carb is a single barrle for a 250. Yes, I did open the top of the carb and remove and clean the needle value. The pump is new. I put the carb back on today and tryed to start it, same thing no change. I did change fuel filters. I'm thinking it could be a defeated fuel pump or they gave me the wrong pump. If I'm not getting enough gas that would cause it. OK, what should I do???? Get another rebuilt kit or pull the pump off and see if they would give me another one?
Pull the fuel line from the carb. Stick the line in a bucket, bottle or something to catch the gas, turn over the motor and see if the pumps working?? Im assuming that you have a manual pump not an electric pump.. If you have fuel shoot out, pumps good... How much gas do you have in the tank.. If you dont get any gas from the pump, pull the line from the pump that comes from the tank? Is there gas running out?? If no gas there you may have a dirty sock(filter in the tank) not all tanks have them but they can be troublesome.. let me know what you find....
