9" Trac-Loc oil capacity and Additive????

    I just got my 3rd member from ebay the other day.. 3.70 trac loc 28 splines and I see chiltons says 5 pints so i guess thats around 2 1/2 quarts and i know i need a additive... what to weight to use? and what combination of additive and gear oil?


    experienced guys help needed.... i dont want to ruin my posi

    good question. i get that all the time at work. DO NOT USE STAY LUBE BRAND!!! we use a schaeffers 140w at work. you will be hard pressed to find this brand. i would recomend finding lucas 140 or a multiweight oil contianing 140w. the thing your looking for is stickyness in the oil. it should string between your fingers when you put them toghter with oil on them the spread them. do not use synthetic, ive seen alot of gearsets wear out prematurely from synthetic. it gets squeezed out from between the gears and does not protect them.
    for posi additve you want to use the stuff you can get from the ford or gm dealer. i have the part number at work but cant get it till tues. just goto the closest dealership and ask for posi additive or limited slip additive.
    you do this and your diff should live and work well for a very long time.

    71 2 Dr Maverick, 70 Mustang Sportsroof, 77 F100 4x4, 72 maverick grabber wifes
    I would use 90w and buy friction modifier from ford, 140w is pretty thick in my opinion
