i have come across a 1977 ford maverick it has very minimal visible rust and needs a couple of seat covers but the over all body looks to be in great condition although i have not gotten the chance to get in it or look under the hood yet. i was wondering if it would be a good deal to buy it at $4000? i would love to get your feedback.

Sounds kinda steep to me without hearing more detail. Is it a V8 with fresh paint with A/C, power steering, shiny chrome and the whole nine yards...or is it showing its age?

If it's a good solid car, 4 grand isn't bad. You have to consider what rust repair and paint work cost these days, and can you do the work yourself, and also what part of the country your in. I'd pay more for a solid rust free car, than I would for something that requires work, but then again, I have been spoiled by a California car.

2 door or 4 door will effect the value as well.

Unless it's in great shape, I think it sounds pretty steep to me. A lot depends also on 2 or 4 doors. I6 or v8, a/c, interior, rust, dents and dings, etc. One thing to do is check ebay and craigslist and see what comparable cars are going for. Also when looking at a Maverick or Comet, pour some water down the cowl vents to make sure it dosen't leak to the inside of the car. This is one of the worst places to fix rust. Good luck.:)
