I'm working on my brothers 71 Comet. I have a question.
How do you replace the upper hinge tapping plate on the drivers side of the body? Do I have to remove the dash to gain access?
The plate dropped down inside the cowl when I took the door hinges off. I can reach up and feel a hole in the cowl, but don't see how I can get it in there without dropping it again.
By the way, it is still in the cowl side area. I need to fish it out of there... somehow...

If it didnt drop all the way to the rocker, you may have too.Take the kick panel off and reach in the hole you should be able to grab it.good luck

I got it back in !

I fished it out of the cowl side and after MUCH fiddling, I got it back in.
I took some longer bolts and cut the heads of them to make pins.
I can slip the hinge on the pins, then replace each pin with a bolt so the thing doesn't fall out again. The fender and door are off so the pin length is not important.
    Thanks.
