why do you want to go with power brakes? i have manual brakes and can stop on a dime. maybe your brakes need some attention. stay tuned... somebody here can help you with the manual to power steering swap. welcome to the board!!!!!! tell us more about your car!
more about my maverick It's a 74 Maverick with a 250 st6 auto trans red runs fine in park runs rough in gear red bad radiator but everything is original
I agree with scott the power brakes dont add anything they just make it a bit easyer to push the peddle down, as for power steering that is a big job you will need the ram, the control valve hoses, pump, thats a really big job, and it robs you big time of horses.losing 30 horses to make your your wheel turn one less time isnt worth it to me just my .02
todds' 70 is a 302 with factorymanual and aside from tight parking jobs, the steering reall isn't all that bad...if you have manual steering and one of those small steering wheels, i'd upgrade to a bigger wheel. 14 inches maybe. we went with a 15 inch grant wheel and not wish we'da gone with a 14". the effort isn't all that tough. my .02
Think of manual brakes as building bigger biceps and forearms!!! Seriously, a lot of guys here have actually done the opposite, they have pulled the power steering in favor of the manual steering, because it gives you a better feel for the road. Just my 2 cents.
Power Steering is the way to go. It doesn't rob any significant amount of engine power, although it does add a little bit of weight. The power steering system has a quicker ratio so your steering is faster and more precise. It's safer and handles better. The ONLY advantage of manual steering would be on a car that was used strictly for drag racing...where every pound of weight savings is an advantage, and where you don't want any unnecessary accessories on the engine. As for brakes, all you really need is disc (if you don't have them already). Power brakes are okay but you don't need 'em and it's a major hassle to make the conversion...
thanks all i think ill keep the manual brakes but probably will change the steering over apreciate the info
