Well, I went and got the old mav out of the garage at my inlaws house yesterday. It will be going to Rons shop the first of March. Anyway, I was just checking it out, sitting on the trailer, of course it is in primer, all the trim, bumpers, headlights, taillights, grill is off of it. I took the slicks and front runners off and it has "will pops" and the old stock steel rims on it now. It looks so sad. If it wasn't for the scoop on the hood, you would swear it was destined for the junkyard. I just kept looking at it trying to picture it with paint and the new wheels on it. I am really looking forward to getting this "stage" of being done.....done! I do not think my car will ever be FINISHED. As most of you I am sure, there is always plans for something different or new. I know I have sunk a bunch of money in this car and I also know that I can find alot better platform to build on, but this car is very special to me, and I feel OK about making plans for it that might not come together for years, cause I know its not going anywhere! My wife is getting better about the money spending......it was kinda hard to explain $110 for wheel studs and McGord lugnuts..... anyway, just thought I would share my thoughts. The old car will never be a show queen(to any of you) but she is the best looking car in the world.......to me.
picture this reading your post brings to mind every time I "put" a Maverick togather. I dream of what it will look like, I will even put some after market wheels on it (a spare set) to give me inspiration. Everybody does it and we all sit back and say "I wish I would have" but hey that is why it is fun to build cars it lets your imagination run as far as your pocket book will take you then you start dreaming some more. Good Luck with your endeavors. And I would like to see what it turns out like. Chandler :bananaman
in all seriousness... this post kinda brings a lump to my throat. the only thing better than driving your mav is all the little gifts you add one at a time. like christmas for your mav.
Sentimental value is worth more than the most prisine Maverick in the world. Mine means the world to me, as yours does for you. Good luck with your project, and don't ever give up!
I can't believe you guys, getting sentimental over a silly car!! Well I got to go out in the garage and make sure the temperature is at precisely 70 F, also need to make sure no UV rays are touching my car and I need to have some time quiet time with it. Dan
Thanks Dennis and Dan. We just got it back together about a week and a half ago. There are just a couple of odds and ends left and, of course, a fresh motor.
WOW Fred your car is looking great!!!!!!! I thought it was gonna take longer?? so are you gonna have it ready for this year after all?? and I know exactly how you feel John I have had my project tore apart for right at 2 years now......but I am getting close just a few things left for body work and the machine work is done on the motor just waiting on the new cam shaft now
