Well, it's back on and running fine, I need to do a little adjustment with the idle screws (need to find my vacuum gauge), and I should be good to go.
With the carb? I would say, hardened power valve, hardened vacuum secondary diaphragm, hardened gaskets, and dirt. Works much better than it did. I still think I have a timing issue, but I'm on the right track, I tore the motor down this afternoon, I'm degreeing it again, to double check a few things. I think the timing pointer location on the engine is not what the balancer is marked for. I don't mean to wine, but I really want to drive my car, so this is bugging me and some other people.
Well, at least you are making headway into your problem. Those hardened rubber parts would qualify as "doh" issues in my book...
