Does anyone know if these headers will clear the shifter linkage in a factory column shift 302 car? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...72743938&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:MOTORS:1123 Also, does a '70 Torino with a 302 have a front sump oil pan or rear?
I don't know what brand they are but they look like my headman headers. When I got the car the headers had already been installed. 74 302 c4 column shift. Long tube
I would love to take pics. But no camera!!!. I will look into buying one soon. I need to document my progress on my mav anyway.
ive seen several cars with long tubes and column shift, but most have to convert to a 'one arm' linkage that runs straight from the column to the trans....
I must say I did not try to shift it into 2nd or low when it was on the column. Hurst pro 2 cable shifter now.
I just went out and looked, all but rod to trans is still there the last header tube is about 1/2 inch in front of linkage and about 3/8 inch below. but I am thinking there was only one rod from column to trans.. Ken
So you're saying the factory style Z bar setup may not work? Where would one get this 'one arm' linkage?
Yes, please do go on... I've always thought column shift=no headers, so this is very interesting to me!
ill do my best to get a picture of an example of the linkage arm that im talking about. you know that the factory setup had two linkage bars for automatic, which both connected to a central arm that bolted onto the frame via bracket. well if these three peices are eliminated, and one bar is used and bent at the correct angles, one can use a column shifter with long tube headers
Used to have a 68 Falcon Sports Coupe with long tubes and column linkage. Worked good. It had Eagle Gold Label headers on it.
Look here, there's a pic showing what I think everyone is talking about. I'm going to have the same problem soon. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=23662&highlight=Column+shifter+headers
