Hey John Ford...............Man I hope that you don't think that am down on you or anything like that. This is just one of those things that happens, and besides that you are way to good a friend for that kinda crap. And for what I have in this whole thing you and I both know I can't complain about anything. I was planning on getting one built from Nutt anyway so even if I end up haveing to it was already antisipated. Hey if you do talk to the kid that built this tranny make sure you ask him if it came with any type of warrenty
Ok, from what you're saying, it's not the modulator valve. There are only two things that can prevent an automatic transmission from shifting manually: 1) Linkage problems, 2)Someone messed up your valve body or servo in the tranny when they rebuilt it. Start with the cheap stuff, play around with your linkage and try what blown76 suggested. It soundsl like a linkage problem to me, because it should shift manually regardless of anything else.
No problems here Neal! With that cable for the linkage it is very important to have it adjusted right. Pull the shifter all the way back in low(its better to have someone in the car and you under it) and then check to make sure it is seated in 1st. then have them shift into 2nd, again make sure it is seated into 2nd, keep repeating the process. Make sure that it seats properly in ever gear. Blown is right, you could be shipping right passed it and kinda putting it between 2nd and drive. What typ of shifter??? I know you said B&M, but what style? Good luck!
sorry, I got that "racers" train of thought and was thinking it had a manual valve body in it. If its in "drive" and not shifting then its not your linkage. I had a slight problem once and this might be your problem too. From what I have learned there are 2 types of c4 valve bodies.... a 8 hole and a 9 hole valve body. If you have a 8 hole tranny and a 9 hole valve body, you are supposed to put a nut and bolt in the "extra" hole in the valve body....if not it causes a loss of vacumm and it will not shift right. someone with a better vocabulary might be able to explain it better.
Yeah, but even if his valve body did have problems, it should still shift manually into second gear, right? It sounds like a linkage problem to me.
Well I have played with the linkage for two days and I still don't have second gear. Maybe still I am not doing something right but seems to me that under the car it is going into second gear when I move the lever by hand. After resetting it I got up in the car put it in 2cd gear then crawed back under it and pulled the linkage down and wiggled the lever and it seemed to be a positive lock into second gear. So maybe there is something internal wrong, I will have to get it down to my dads shop and put it on the hoist and give it a look see. Thanks for all the tips, just wish the linkage would have been my problem, who knows could still be
B&M Neal, keep screwing with the adjustment on the shifter. I think B&M designs their gates with a turbo 350 in mind and it has to be perfect to work on a c4 I've had the same trouble with a couple of the ones I did. When it's right, you should just barely get it into the park detent (hope that makes sense) Get under there and check each gear individually. You'll win. just my .02
It goes to show that people on this board really like to help out those that they don't even know. I got a call today for Maverick Guy (dave) and we talked a bit about my tranny trouble, and gave me a few things to try out. It is nice to know that people really care............Just what to send out a Public THANK YOU to Maverick guy.... And of course to all of those that have tried as well. I am going to pull the tranny out and take it to Springfeild and let Nutt have his way with it. I would feel alittle better being that I drive my car when I take it to shows to know that everything is right. With the build that it had I really don't know for sure, so no matter what I think I will be better off.
i can't help it one last time... ... ... think manual... ... ... think 4 speed toploader... ... ... heheheheheheh i'm sorry i couldn't help it
