last i seen only 74-77 maverick/comet gas tanks are avaliable? ive got a small "wet spot" on the bottom of the tank in my latest '72 mav and would like to find a "bolt on" replacment. fabricating all kind of stuff to get something else in there was a little more then im trying to get into i know how the 74-76 tanks look on a small bumper car, the over hang under the valence. my '76 suffers from this after doing the small bumper swap. i can live with that but would i also need a new sending unit? theyre pretty expensive or should i just drop the stock tank, get a patch welded over the spot, poor some sealent in there and bolt it back up? i look foward to some input. i know i cant be the only person out there suffering with this same problem
Your the only one I have heard of... j/k... Just gotta keep an eye open and post in the wanted sections...for a good tank.
alot of people that swap tanks just use the sending unit they have available at the time. i believe Frank (71gold) is running a later 75-77 sending unit in his '73. Ive done it myself and havent have any problems as far as gas readings go
Got the same problem here myself! 77 tank has JB Weld on it for right now + 72 tank I was going to use has leaked and is bone dry. Don't radiator shops boil out + repair tanks anymore?? I know back in the late 80's a local guy used to but he's long gone now. Scott
It's really getting harder and harder to find people that want to work on anything. They are all turning into replacers!
If you don't have a fuel tank for the lad I suggest you stay out of this thread. Old farts like you have stuff and won't share. You said you have Comets laying around for parts, now get him a tank already.
