I have just ordered all my new toys to complete the engine part of the Mav Resto-Mod!! This is what I am getting so far.

    1. Hurst Comp Plus Shifter
    2. Complete Comp Cams XE268H kit...includes springs, retainers, timing gear, cam and lifters. (.509 int, .512 Ext)
    3. 6901 Headers
    4. New complete clutch setup
    5. Catch Can
    6. Shift Light
    7. Aluminum water pump (always wanted one for some reason)
    8. 4:11 mini spool...I know, I know...
    9. misc items...

This is all I need to complete the car except plug wires, hoses and some other minor stuff. Short block is already done....heads will be done this week. Paint will be done in 2-3 weeks. (I am Rhino lining the undercarriage, passenger compartment, trunk and half the engine bay along with the paint) Now I just have to figure out how to pay for it all!!! Actually, it looks like the whole car will be done for under $4000 including the cost of the car. I cant wait till assembly starts! Sorry, I just had to share my excitement

How does this setup sound? Most of it has been built with suggestions from this board so I am going to blame you guys if it runs terrible!

You gotta 4 speed. How much more fun is that? Even when mine was a bone stock with the 2 bbl it was a kick to drive with the 4 speed.

Good deal j...get some pics up man...sounds like a good setup.
john mini spools are known to "click" when cornering, supposed to be a good setup for dragracing but not for an everyday driver.
I almost put one in mine until I was told what would happen in the corners, ended up goin with a Moser posi instead.

Mini spools dont click. They lock the axles together so they will always turn at the same speed. Great for going straight but in a turn, the outside axle must turn faster than the inside axle. If they are locked together, this cant happen so something has to give. Usually the wheels will break free and you loose traction. Not good on the street, especially if the roads are wet. The clicking your thinking of is when you use a gear type locker. The gears must disengage then reengager when cornoring, thus, they make a clicking type sound.

Isn't a good POSI or Traction Lok rear end about as good as a Spool? The whole idea is to get equal power to both wheels. Can it be done without a spool?

That setup sounds great. And Dennis is right, with a 4 gear, its certainly to be a blast. Love them 4 gears!!!

if your going to do much street driving, the posi or trak lok will definitely be better and safer. if you never drive it in the rain, like only to a cruise or show in good weather you will be okay. except for the fact that you could twist the axles or break the rear. that is why the setups like the detroit locker disengage when you go around the corners. some may disagree but i would err on the side of caution.

The mini-spool is only for racing. I have an open 3:00 for daily driving and road trips but I have to try out the spool first of course! I am also getting a trac-lock but that wont be until this summer. In the mean time, a spool is the cheapest way to get good launches at the local strip!

Everything will be rolling in here this wednesday and thursday...Its like Christmas all over again. I love tax return time!!
