How to install a boss 302 in a 1970 maverick. Gotta love the spoiler.

    I got that book...
Has a good article on modding a Maverick I6.

It is neat to look at what they were doing back when the Mav first came out.
The cars weren't even available with V8s when that book was printed!

It's made out of wood strips.

They only had one grille back then. So if they wanted to stand out, they had to make their own.
My book is dated late summer 69...
So early in the 70 model year that, IIRC, there are no other 70 models in that book. Correct me if I am wrong. My uncle borrowed my copy. So I can't look.

Years ago, when I noticed that pic there, I happened to have a 69 dash pad/metal frame laying around.
I took the thing and layed it into a Mav that had the dash pad out, just for giggles...
The forward metal part was still in, so it didn't drop all the way into place, but as far as it did go, it fit perfectly.
Width, contour with the windshield, everything...
I believe it would take very little to put a Stang dash in there.

That said, I don't think that pic is actually of the inside of the Mav.
I think they mixed up pics and posted the interior pic of a 69 Stang that is featured in the next chapter of the book.
For years, I thought it was correct... but now I believe differently.

The caption wouldn't have called it "stock" if they had gone through all that trouble.

One neat thing is they did use a 69/70 Stang radiator.
There were NO radiator choices beyond the one in 69.5 Mavericks.
So they didn't have much choice.
The one they used was from a larger V8, so they had to custom fit it. Either a 351 or 390.

The 390 version has the same hose sizes, is the same height, and has the lower hose on the driver's side. Perfect fit, except it is a couple inches wider. So the holes had to be redrilled. That radiator is also a 3 row, with 4 rows available in the aftermarket. Talk about a cool running 347, or even 408!

    Edit:
The article says that is a 302 radiator, but they also call the Mustang a "Mark 1"...
The 302 radiator available then would have bolted right in, no redrilling holes. However the lower radiator hose would have been on the passenger side.
It's pretty obvious from the pics that they used a 351/390 radiator IMO. I suppose they could have used the Boss 302 rad, but I not familiar with that one... Most everything that is different between 302 and 351, the 351 part was used on a Boss 302. Example: 164t flywheel/11" clutch. Probably the same rad.

Yeah, IIRC there was this article with the "SAAPE" and the Ak Miller 3v I6, together, AND there was another article on an Ak Miller turbo I6 in a 70.

I might be melding articles from 2 different old books together though...

Well, if it's not in the same book, at least I know it was a real article somewhere, and I have read it. (the turbo I6 Mav article that is)
