After we had brunch at Denny's. It was off to the Colby cruize. We had a blast. I heard alot of people say, "I didn't know there were that many Mavericks/Comets left." Here's some pictures.... Enjoy!!!
More pictures.....The last 2 pictures are of Matt (15). He is the person who came up with this event. Thanks Matt! Had a wonderful time. And an awesome turnout....
Ryan(Ryans Ride), Shaun (ShaunMav Mod), Mike((yellow75)and his lovely wife) and myself were there! We had two cars from Canada and one from Oregan to represent Washington at the Monday show&shine! Had a super time(and to much liquid fun(or maybe not enough) at the "dance"). I was planning to take a ton of pics..but the day I got to the US...my digital cam packed it in. Must have been all the death rays at the border..hehe. Everyone else took lots and lots...sure hope to see some more! Met up with Shaun just off the Ferry(dosn't that sound odd)...turns out to be an awesome guy! Met Robb(Whiskey) and Ryan a bit later...Canadian people must be all awesome...cause they were too! Was trying to get hold of James(jimmy2gates)..as I forgot to bring his number. Called Ray in Bellingham..but no number...rats...sorry James!. We drove to grab a bite...spent an hour in the restuarant eating and talking..then Ray(courier11sec) showed up and impressed everyone!...about half an hour later we ended up in the parking lot talking for a good hour or so..before heading to Rays place to pick up some dash bulbs...! The drive to Coops(Mercurycruizers) place was fun(except for the drizzle)..although we had to stop a few times to "adjust" a few items on one of our caravan attendees..and I stopped once cause I thought I had a flat..but it was just the "fun filled roads of Washington State" that are designed to make if feel like you have a flat...good job guys! We got to Coops around 11pm..and immediatly examined Coops carb pieces..as his neigbor(nice guy too) helped out by dissassemling the carb before we got there! Found we were missing a few parts...so he had to pick up some the next morning(I had a few comments about the intelligence of the local auto parts people..maybe they have relatives who work on the highways). Afterwards we examined all of Coops goodies and went to get to sleep around 2:30am...only to find that the cat did not like the visters(don't like Canadians perhaps) and whizzed on a few sleeping bags! Got up at around 8am to get Coops car done...but it was not to be. Managed to not get Coops car fixed(sorry buddy...I felt really bad)...and so Coop had to drive his daily driver. We met up with everyone at Dennys at about 1ish...awesome turnout...made my day! We hit the cruise after we ate(table for 15 I think)...cruise was good..although I was on "E" so I just parked(I think I have the worst milage of the group) The Dance was interesting...the band was pretty bad. ..to loud, to high pitced, not enough bass, missed chords and off singing...but after we had a few drinks they must have straighted up...and they actually sounded good! Sounded better the more we had..awesome! Afterwards(around 11:00) we were starving so we(Ryan, Jeff, Shaun and myself) ended up at some Irish pub and had a great meal! Ended up staying in Everett at a motel as we(I should say me)..could not walk to well(not sure why) Next morning w had breakfast at the motel(food was super duper..and included in the price of the room!). Then we hit the show...
Yes indeed it was a fun time, great company, great cars and will provide me with some great memories. Matt was in his element cruising around most the night with only a brief stop every once in awhile, he is a great kid and will be nice to see him mature and expand his love for Mavericks. It was great to meet up and put faces to the names, but now I know the faces and not the names, not really I know all the names of all the people I met. It was great first long distance trip for the Mav, the 302 just purred along at 70 with lots of pedal left for those moments when you just want to pass somebody, got 18 mpg, only problem was the stereo amp heated up after about 2 hours and had to shut it down and let it cool off and a rattle from an exhaust hangar that was put on when car was empty and when weight was added it hit leaf spring. Some notable things heard from people in the background as they walked by I forgot they made those My dad used to have one of those Maverick, ha ha ha All Grabbers have a v8 Who would have thought a Maverick would be a collectible car Sweet That car brings back memories And we were asked more than once if we wanted to sell the cars and also asked if we wanted another to buy another one. And not to take any glory away from the Comets, they drew quite a crowd around them as well. Many people said they have never seen that many Mavericks and Comets together at one time to which I responded neither have we. I have many pics of the cars as a group and individual cars, as soon as I figure out how to post them. As for the car show 668 cars were entered, we didnt stand a chance of winning a trophy as a biggest percent of these cars were top notch show cars, but then who cares we were there to have fun.
I have to agree with you Mike! Was indeed a fun time. Great cars, great people. I hope we can do it again next year. I'll be posting the Washington State Mini Meet as soon as I get the details. We have our category with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place awards. Another notable thing heard in the backround: I didn't know there were that many Mavericks/Comets left..... Maverick/Comet people have to be the greatest people ever..... Was great meeting everyone & seeing your cars. Thanks for the cheese, beef jerky & pepperoni sticks, Mike! Very nice of you to bring us a little bit of Tillamook, Oregon with you.... I would like to make a road trip there someday. What fun Maverick/Comet people are....
awesome! hopefully in a few years i can attend the show and shine too! thanks to Mike for the food and I can't wait to make a visit down there to do some trading and check out your collection of toys sounds like the show and shine was pretty full also. The huge difference about Mavericks/Comets compared to other cars is that nobody can let one pass by and not say something about it and thats why i love them
Sounds like a good time! Too bad I couldn't make it, but at least I got to meet a few new people and see one old friend again.
Looks like a good run. The General is still up on jack stands, but in time, it'll be road worthy again. Of course, since it runs on liquid gold...its usage may be reduced.
