    Hi Mark,

I believe mine are "D4D#####"s . I would expect that there are some out there that are "D0D"s or "D1D"s if they started putting sports mirrors on in 70 or 71. I doubt that they changed the casting for the later cars after 74, but if they did, the number would be "D5B ...".

I posted a chart that I grabbed from a Mustang site, and it is in the Parts Interchange section here. Best listing I have seen to quickly decode casting numbers ...

BTW, if the numbers show that they are for any other model, they probably won't sit right. Seems like the bases are all different angles. I don't know if anyone has successfully used mirrors from other models.

    Good Luck.

No other sport mirror bases are identical to the Maverick/Comet ones. The part numbers on the bases begin D0DB. They are the same from 70-77. The bullet heads are the same as some Mustang and other Ford applications, but not the bases. Not to say that you couldn't use a mirror from another application, but if you want it to be a Maverick/Comet application with a correct base, it has to be from a Maverick or Comet...

    Chuck is 100% correct there.

Curiousity got the best of me and I had to pop one off the car and have a look. The gasket also is a "D0D...".

My mirrors came off of a '74 and that is my confusion started ...
