My cam didn't really make power until very close to 3k... So that would explain why I didn't see a change in bottom end. My combo must have been just right then. Intake on at 3k, cam on at 3k... I suppose we need to know about the combo in question and when the cam comes in. If it doesn't start low, why would someone want a lower RPM intake? It seems to me it would waste your cam's potential on the top, and the lower end power promised by the manufacturer would not be realized. Is my thinking flawed?
I agree Mavman, putting a Vic Jr on a 289, 302 is not the right thing to do on a street machine. That's what I was trying to get at. Picking a intake to match the rest of your motor is the best way to go. A mild to stock bottem end with a mild cam should use a duel plane intake. I'm sure I wouldn't use a 850 on it but that's just me. Here is a site to some Edelbrock intakes, look at the RPM range and get the one that's fits your needs. http://www.performancecenter.com/intake-manifold The one major factor to keep in mind here is your heads, your can have the best of everything, but if your heads won't flow, you won't go. That's the very sad truth about SBF's the exhuast side almost always needs help. Good luck. Bossmav
