For something that has to take the abuse of racing I would buy better parts than those Chinese knockoffs, especially the heads. They appear to be Pro Comps, a lot of horror stories about them and the Hawk cranks. And while you can make good power with a solid flat tappet cam, you'd be much farther ahead with a good solid roller.

These days it's almost cheaper and less headaches just to buy a stroker long block, look at dssracing.com there hard to beat with their quality!!!

I've heard good things and bad things about DSS, like almost any business. Don't get caught up in their hype about their different "levels" of machined stock blocks. The machining doesn't make the block any stronger. An older nonroller block is a good bit stronger than a roller block.

And the Mexican block, stronger still. Beyond that is the Boss block, then the aftermarket is the best if you've got the money.

i'm not sure about your application, but scat has a good priced kit in summit and jegs. I'm also a bigger fan of the 331 versus the 347. with the same parts my 331 is two tenths faster than my dad's 347. it's probably just our combination though

to make 500+ horsepower out of a 347, it's nearly impossible to have healthy street manners... and to run on pump gas 93 octane you're going to need no more than 10.0:1 compression, you're not going to get those numbers without a power adder.

EDIT:::: didn't see it was for a specific drag car:

ok then... run it up to 11 or 12:1 compression and throw some alcohol at it... you'll get it.

$3,000 is very cheap... and 7,100 rpm, well.. that's is a little more then a stock block should go.
Can you say "crank is walking"

There is one true saying in racing.
"Speed costs! How fast do you wanta go?":burnout:

Your bottle neck will be the same as most everyones.
If your heads don't flow, you won't go.

All the carb and cam in the world won't do you any good if you can't push it out the exhaust.

Remember, DON"T ever cut corners when it comes to your motor. You always want to OVERKILL every aspect of your engine.

Use ARP bolts and studs, and the best of everything else you can afford.

Ford Motorsports has a new BOSS block, it's very nice and can go up to 360 CID with no problems. Priceee would be the word here.

If I remember right, KillerComet got my last Mexican block, I never saw the diff.

    As always just my .02

7100 is not much, i've been pushing mine over 7600 rpm's for over six years now with a stock block. bottom end looks like brand new. dang it probably just jinxed myself!

I have been turning 7300 consistently for 2 years now, stock 302 block, stock lower end, no problems either.

Building a higher RPM engine from a stock block is like pulling the pin on a hand grenade. Sooner or later it will break. We just hope it's later and not sooner ;)
