Hi all. I think a long time ago, I might have asked this question, but not sure. Anyway, now that I am older and have decided to downsize and but a smaller home, I will have to strip this beat up 1974 four door Maverick before having it hauled off.

I drive a 72 Maverick Sprint, as I have mentioned before, and am curious if the front fenders on the 74 four-door are the same as the Sprint fenders. They sure look the same. I will save the important parts such as the head and such. Won't have time for the bumpers, but the rubber on them is deteriorated anyway.

The reason I am stripping this car is it was given to me, and is gutted inside and rusted on the outside. Fenders, though, are in good shape. Just minor surface rust, as it is a California car.

Does anyone know for sure if these fenders, hood, and the trunk lid will match my 72 Sprint? I just hate to let these parts go to the junkyard as I never know when someone might total out a fender on my 72, and they are getting hard to find here.

In the eighties, far too many Mavericks were junked. I could go to Pick-A-Part and find seven different Mavericks in there ever few weeks. What a waste. Now, the younger people in my area discovered what nice cars they are and are saving the rest. There are none in the junkyards anymore, except for canibalized ones. Most were junked for minor reasons. Worn out engine, dented fender, etc. What a waste. Thousands were scrapped here in local junkyards back then.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hood is the same, fenders will work but will require notching in the front to fit. The deck lid will not swap between 2dr and 4dr models.

Stripping 1974 Maverick four-door. Have Questions

Hi all. Maverick, thanks for your reply and information.

Now, I just have one more question on this.

Is the notch that will have to be cut in the four-door fenders large enough to affect the strength of the fender? Does it need to be reinforced? I just asked as I want to make sure they are worth taking off.

    Thanks again for your reply.

if they are good they are allways worth saving. The notch wont do much to detract from the fenders rigidity(thay have none ) the notch is nessary to allow the small bumper gravel pan to tuck in under the fender.Look at your 72 where the pan sits under the head light and you will see.Good luck.

The fenders are the same on a 2 door or 4 door. The difference is in the years. Take a look at the fenders in this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-...yZ140703QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

There is one early fender and one late fender. Look at the area below the headlight and ahead of the side marker. This is the notch. Guys notch them all the time for a small bumper swap. If your concerned with strength you can fold over a flange for added strength. If the fenders are rust free they are worth saving.
