From what I understand, there is a heater hose that that passes air to something that heats the air so it can open and close the choke. Anyway, the guy that rebuilt the carb says that there are supposed to be TWO of these handy dandy hoses and that one of mine was missing and one was rotten. The guy that is INSTALLING the re-built carburetor says no--it is only supposed to have ONE of these hoses and the other is supposed to be a vaccuum hose. AYE--YAE---AYE! Help me, boys----how many am I supposed to have and does anybody know where I can get them?????

I would just go with a manual or electric choke. Never have much liked that factory setup.

I think he could be talking about the heat riser that draws warm air off the exhaust manifold, and maybe the vacuum line that controls the flapper in the stock air cleaner? or could it be the hard line that comes off the exhaust manifold and connects to the choke?.

Stock app. Two heater hoses from engine to heater core. One passes along side the choke housing and is held there by a cradle that the hose sits in to keep in contact w/the choke housing to tranfer the heat. The other hose has nothing to do with it.The vacuum hose is another matter. The one on the air cleaner opens and closes a door in the air cleaner lids snorkle that is attached to a heat stove on the exhaust mainfold with that funky foil tube like you have on your clothes dryer. It sends warm air to the carb to prevent carb iceing. It only works between 43 an 47 degrees.Other wise its just dead weight.Since your car is a 75? there may well be other components there for emissions reasons. All in all,Listen to Jamie and put a manual or electric on it.More efficient/less cluttered and ultimately less trouble down the road.Good luck, hope this helps you.

    ? about the electric choke

So to change to an electric choke, doe I need a different carb or is the choke seperate from the carb?

Also--is electric choke to fit my car something that I can get at the local auto parts store, or do I need to get it somewhere else? When looking for one, do I just say that I need "an electric choke for a 1975 Maverick?" :p--You guys are probably thinking "Duh, girl!" Sorry

Thanks for taking the time to explain things to me Mavman and thanks to you all for your suggestions. I think I like the electric choke idea--sounds like less hassle in the long run.
