yea if its not the right pan you jusnt need to swap it out and get the right pick up tube for the oil pump the dual sump pan is really shallow in the middle to make room for the engine crossmember and i thought this is what all fox bodies had but i could be wrong. you want deep in the front, shallow in the back for a maverick.
Right Now I am just trying to make sur ehte dang thing is aeven a 302 seems they put a POS 255 in Mustangs , and depending on source some say they wre in 79's and some say not??
Why not get the engine code off the "B" pillar sticker and look it up? If it's in a Fox body, there is no way a front sump pan would fit, thats the whole reason they made those other pans, for the fox body. Look for any cheap Ford van, like an E150 they have 302's , even a Crown Vic or Grand Marquee. Front sump pans are not that expensive, any swap will have ton's of them.
Well the motor is not in the car they pulled it out of a 79 to put a 351 in. So I have no info other than a visual inspection, (this Saturday). I have emailed him asking about this and will ask hiim to email a close up picture if possible. I am really glad you guys brought this up he has one from a 78 Fairmont too and he says it has the rear sump design,
Guys how do truck engines work out for a swap? put an add on Craigs list and got great response form people who have 302's to sell here's two "I have one in a 86 Ford truck. Can still hear run, I am only gonna keep the truck for another 2-3 weeks. I would prefer someone use the engine before I junk the truck. Rich 515-240-7555" Or "I have a fuel injected 302 in a 91 f-150 that runs good no noises no smoke I would like to sell complete truck for $600 or just engine for $300 if interested let me know you can hear it run right now it is located in Callender Iowa "
to me a block is a block. I usually swap heads, cam, pistons etc so the block is the main thing I want. Nice to have all the pumps and pulleys with it though.
I'm looking for something that will require very little modification to put it in the car, later I can modify
i'd be tempted to pay the guy 600 for the whole truck and part it out. trucks have rear sump pans so youd have to change that and then deal with EFI as you would with any later 302
Ok guys , man putting a wanted add on Craigs list has them ocmiong out fo the wood work, opinions needed Just got off the phone with a guy has 302 out of a 90 mustang with tranny still attached, pulled it after it was wrecked, I'm leaning towards this set up, he wants $300 for Motor and tranny together, he believes it is a C-4, says it ran good shifted fine, would you go for that? our one or out of a truck you could hear run, are there any issues with electrionics regarding the tranny? Not sure when or if there is any computer management going on with automatics ?
if the tranny is stock it would be a AOD in a 90 mustang and i know for sure they have the dual sump oil pan and EFI. still sounds like a good deal
Does the overdrive require I get a different driveshaft then, also how does it affect installing , guess i better search the threads maybe, This saves having my c-4 builtto handle the 302 I guess, which is cheaper having my C-4 built to take the 302 power, or get what I need to retain the AOD that comes with this motor?
I personally would always feel more comfortable going with an engine I can hear run first. Frank should be able to tell you everything you need to do to put an AOD in, and he is the ONLY source for the correct cross members to bolt an AOD in. Wouldn't the truck have an AOD also?
with The 86 pickup motor I can hear it run and he'll pull it out of the truck to , anyone know when they put roller 302's in pickups? This is tough I can get a mustang motor and trany for $300 or this motor that I can actually see and hear running, from a guy who is going to junk it if he doesn't sell the motor first? Seems like I could get that motor by itself, and just use the tranny I already have, will I need a dffernt bell housing or anythign else to adapt to my c-4 ? Lots of opnions would be good and any info on what applications require what I am getting the Maverick pieces ( already ordered) Most likly i'll gather everythign i need then get someone to swap the motors out and bolt up the 302 so I rally don't want the guy to run into a brick wall with some problem I know i need a front sump set up , and a v-8 radiator,
you have a 250 right? they have a smaller radiator then v8 cars but the hose outlets are the right size for a v8. im going to run my 250 radiator with the 302 and see what happens. upgrade of necessary 250 also have the v8 transmission bellhousing
