Wow, just wow. Thats a good deal dude! Make sure to take pictures! I have Fox 'Stang seats in my Comet and used the bench rails plus the Fox rails and some spacers.
goin to i just need to dig the 73 out. it has neer mint comet buckets in it to im going to sell those this summer. whats up with the grill dude? i can get you a better one!
My grill is homemade. The wife hates it but I couldn't find one cheap enough for me to afford and the huge hole looked terrible so I filled it as best I could. I am saving for dental surgery and haven't got the loot right now to buy a real one. After the ordeal is done I'll have to get with you about that.
ill scroung around and see about one at my junk yard that isent that bad for 20 bucks if i get it just pay me the shippin cost. hows that!
The seats are same-same as our early buckets. The part that doesn't work is the seat rails. If you have the seat rails on those 73 seats you are considering selling, you can use those. The Mav/Comet rails bolt right to the seats you got.
I have 73 Cougar seats swapped into mine. I have no idea what I pulled the seat tracks out of, but using them placed the seats too far back bolting them up using the existing holes in the floor. You definitely want Mav seat tracks. Ratio, as close as I can tell, 69-70 Mustang seats are identical to Mav highback buckets and you can buy seat foam on eBay. I have been lead to believe that 71-73 Mustang/Cougar seats are a little bigger. I do know that the backs hinge different, these flop forward angled a bit toward the console, where 69-70 tilt straight forward. Also, the release mechanism is in the center of the back for 69, and a lever on the side of 70s. For 71-73, the release is built into the outboard side of each back. The reason for all this study in detail is that I wanted to use 1970 Mach 1 seat covers on my seats, but then figuring out that the rear seat covers would only be available as a fold-down squashed those plans.
Don, I saw you on TV last night, looking good. I like that show a lot better than having to risk your ride like on Pinks. Seems like in one of your posts you mentioned you grew up or lived in New Jersey. I grew up in Newton, up in the Northwest corner. Hope to see you again at the roundup in Virginia this summer. Lee "THE MAV" Richart
Nope. The first generation of Mav buckets (don't know about Comets, but assume the same) were 71-73 Mustang/Cougar seats. Just different tracks. I have seen one eBay seller that thinks the 69-70 seats are the same. I messaged him to let him know they are not, apparently he hasn't sold any yet to get complaints. My 72 Grabber had same seats as my dad's 71 Mach. The Grabber even had the seat release in the same place. My uncle put 73 Mach seats in his Mav, but had to mod the heck out of the tracks, and it still doesn't look right. Edit: When it comes to the seat covers, you can get Stang coupe rear seat covers in. They are only slightly different. At least that is 71-73. My uncle recovered his seats with the Stang coupe set. The Mach/Fastback rear seats are totally different as you found.
