You know what, I was just reading an article in "Mustangs & Fords" about fuel systems, and they say to get rid of it all together, no in tank filter.
Buy a new sock and "O" ring gasket from autokrafters, there cheap. Put new rubber fuel hoses on too... And like mentioned, shake the float and see if it has anything in it. Order that also from AK if it does.
Impedes flow(A tiny bit)Instead of tearing the fuel strainer off the pick up tube, use a tubing cutter and take just enough tube to remove the strainer.
might not want to "cut" any off the tube...it will be out of gas before the guage reads empty... ...JMO...
True but if he is going to put hose on the end w/a filter,he can make it any length he wants.(just dont want to see him mangle the tube if he cant get the strainer off)
Putting a filter on the end of the fuel pickup is just making it easier to clog and have problems. Leave the in-tank filter off completely and put a large filter between the fuel line and pump. That way when it clogs you can replace it withouthaving to drain the tank, jack the car...etc.
We put a new sending unit and cooked the tank out last year, and the sock still stopped up. So we are now sockless, and using a inline filter before the pump and one after the pump, just for safety sake. Runs like a champ. Inlines are easier to change than tank filters.
